14:01:10 <bexelbie> #topic Introductions, Welcomes
14:01:10 <bexelbie> .hello bex
14:01:11 <zodbot> bexelbie: bex 'Brian (bex) Exelbierd' <bexelbie@redhat.com>
14:01:11 <bexelbie> Note: Several folks have time change shennanigans related conflicts.
14:01:25 <contyk> now?
14:01:33 <dgilmore> hi all
14:01:35 <contyk> isn't this 1500 UTC?
14:02:01 <contyk> guess not
14:02:03 <dgilmore> contyk: it followed daylight savings in my calendar
14:02:03 <bexelbie> contyk, timezones are beautiful things :)
14:02:21 <bexelbie> mine too - let me look at fedocal
14:02:35 <contyk> yeah, I thought it was always 1500 *UTC* but now fedocal says 1400
14:03:11 <bexelbie> sneaky of fedocal to do that
14:03:18 <bexelbie> langdon, pbrobinson
14:03:25 * bexelbie knows their here somewhere
14:03:31 <langdon> .hello2
14:03:34 <zodbot> langdon: langdon 'Langdon White' <langdon@redhat.com>
14:03:35 <langdon> my connection got borked
14:03:43 <langdon> what was the sneaky fedocal thing?
14:03:58 * pbrobinson o/
14:03:59 <dgilmore> langdon: following US DST
14:04:05 * pbrobinson is also doing iot meeting
14:04:06 <contyk> langdon: fedocal says this is scheduled in UTC but apparently it followed the US DST change
14:04:54 <langdon> lol
14:05:38 <contyk> so is this on jitsi today?
14:05:54 <langdon> i hope not.. i am not prepared for video
14:05:55 * contyk recalls seeing an email
14:06:02 <langdon> next week
14:06:07 <bexelbie> #topic Today's Agenda
14:06:07 <bexelbie> 1. Objective reports (Lifecycle, Atomic CI/CD, Modularity, IoT)
14:06:07 <bexelbie> 2. Open Floor
14:06:14 <bexelbie> jitsi is next week
14:06:23 <contyk> ah, okay
14:06:27 * bexelbie is unprepared for video too - laptop crashed hard
14:06:33 <bexelbie> you're lucky this old medium is working
14:06:43 <langdon> we can send emoji
14:07:14 <bexelbie> send ansible playbooks ...
14:07:16 <contyk> I'll miss the next few meetings since it now conflicts with things
14:07:17 <bexelbie> now on with the meeting
14:07:19 <bexelbie> # topic Objective Report: Lifecycle
14:07:19 <bexelbie> Paul could not join us today, but provided this report:
14:07:19 <bexelbie> <stickster> * The team has consulted with lots of stakeholders for gating, and developed and scoped a plan for gating. They made a proposal to FESCo but there are a few wrinkles to iron out
14:07:19 <bexelbie> <stickster> * For example, single vs. multi-package gating may not be phaseable in the way originally proposed. The team is discussing ways to adapt plans and still feels confident about delivering this for Flock.
14:07:19 <bexelbie> <stickster> * I'm currently looking at FY20 plans and seeing to what extent I can work in other aspects of the objective.
14:07:26 <bexelbie> #link https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Changes/GatingRawhidePackages
14:07:28 <bexelbie> Because he isn't here we will forego questions and encourage interested parties to read and comment on the proposal.
14:07:40 <bexelbie> and another wall of text ...
14:07:41 <bexelbie> # topic Objective Report: Atomic CI/CD
14:07:41 <bexelbie> Dominik also could not join us today, but provided this report:
14:07:43 <bexelbie> <dperpeet> the core enabler is pingou's Fedora Rawhide Gating proposal
14:07:45 <bexelbie> <dperpeet> and we're working on upstreaming some of the downstream CI things
14:07:47 <bexelbie> <dperpeet> that make life easier for developers
14:07:49 <bexelbie> <dperpeet> link to the future is Tomas' packit proposal
14:07:55 <bexelbie> <dperpeet> (automating Fedora packaging)
14:07:57 <bexelbie> <dperpeet> that's the short and sweet version
14:07:59 <bexelbie> <dperpeet> not much new right now from actual users (i.e. packagers)
14:08:01 <bexelbie> #link https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Changes/GatingRawhideSinglePackageUpdates
14:08:03 <bexelbie> #link https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Packit
14:08:05 <bexelbie> Again, because he isn't here we will forego questions and encourage interested parties to read and comment on the proposals.
14:08:10 <bexelbie> I also think we need get Paul and Dominik to coordinate a little more :D
14:08:12 <bexelbie> I'll let you all digest this for a moment
14:08:14 <bexelbie> # topic Objective Report: Modularity
14:08:16 <bexelbie> Langdon, you're up
14:08:18 <bexelbie> langdon, ^^
14:08:31 <contyk> :)
14:08:35 <langdon> ok.. i guess ill go back to read the wall
14:08:56 <langdon> we have been working with fesco to deal with module EOL
14:09:09 <langdon> getting some feedback on dev tools from community members
14:09:16 <langdon> starting to see copr building modules
14:09:24 <langdon> improving dev tools
14:09:36 <langdon> still no refreshed objective
14:09:53 <langdon> we did have a hackfest though... sgallagh did a great write up /me digs for link
14:10:08 <contyk> yeah, we made some progress on the third party story there
14:10:37 <langdon> #link https://communityblog.fedoraproject.org/modularity-hackfest-march-2019/ write up of the modularity hackfest
14:10:51 <langdon> but it was only two days not the week we were hoping for
14:11:33 <langdon> just to clarify "third party story" is.. how do people build things with/for modules who are not building in the fedora build system..
14:11:44 <langdon> this also improves packager tools for fedora (generally)
14:11:52 <sgallagh> Note: that blog post asks some questions at the end; we'd love feedback on that.
14:12:23 <bexelbie> cool .. a side benefit of my laptop crashing was I got to see a module get automatically added an enabled in response to a `dnf install ` command - very slick
14:12:36 <langdon> bexelbie: \o/
14:12:43 <langdon> thats about all i have unless there are qs
14:12:46 <bexelbie> #info please think about the questions at the end of the hackfest write up
14:12:49 <bexelbie> any questions?
14:13:01 <langdon> also
14:13:12 <langdon> #link https://pagure.io/modularity/issues
14:13:37 <langdon> #info we review the issues in the link every week, please leave requests there
14:13:59 <langdon> now im done
14:14:09 <bexelbie> cool - any questions for langdon while he is in the hot seat?
14:14:29 <contyk> what does the latest mean?
14:14:31 <contyk> ;)
14:14:48 <langdon> contyk: :P
14:14:56 <langdon> how about "dev" vs "devel"?
14:15:16 <langdon> actually.. you do bring up a good point
14:15:37 <langdon> we are also working on a refresh of the naming conventions for streams and profiles to make them clearer
14:16:44 <bexelbie> cool
14:17:07 <bexelbie> I hope they remain relatively understandable and not random colors or Icelandic volcanoes
14:17:23 <contyk> could be Polish tongue twisters
14:17:32 <langdon> bexelbie: teas.. we were thinking teas (inside joke about rht conf room names)
14:18:02 <bexelbie> any other relevant questions :D
14:18:57 <bexelbie> cool
14:18:58 <bexelbie> Thank you langdon
14:18:58 <bexelbie> our next contest runs a meeting in #fedora-meeting at this exact time , lets see if we can pry him away for a few min
14:18:59 <bexelbie> # topic Objective Report: IoT
14:18:59 <bexelbie> Peter, you're up
14:19:05 <bexelbie> s/contest/contestant/
14:19:08 <bexelbie> pbrobinson, ^^
14:19:27 <pbrobinson> we're getting there slowly
14:19:52 <pbrobinson> We should have the web site up later this week
14:20:34 <pbrobinson> The ARMv7 UEFI feature landed
14:21:09 <pbrobinson> I'm dealing with some of the fallout of that on legacy shit ^W devices around cloud platforms
14:21:11 <dgilmore> pbrobinson: did teh docs work get finished?
14:21:37 <pbrobinson> the docs work stuff got massively updated https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/iot/
14:21:46 <pbrobinson> feedback on that is welcome but it's live
14:21:54 <pbrobinson> I've got a few minor updates to do
14:22:58 <pbrobinson> there's some bugs causing me stress and a lot of time around the Raspberry Pi
14:22:59 <bexelbie> any other questions?
14:23:08 <pbrobinson> and some of the other HW
14:23:19 <bexelbie> Are there any logical groups that we can go to to attract some enablement contributors for the Pi?
14:23:32 <pbrobinson> the HW enablement is a massive time sync and there's just not enough of it
14:23:45 <pbrobinson> time that is.... there's more than enough damn hardware....
14:24:11 <pbrobinson> bexelbie: I've been trying to find someone to hand off the RPi support to right from the outset
14:24:27 <pbrobinson> it's never particularly been my most favourite device
14:24:49 <bexelbie> I wonder if there is a uni program where this kind of work would be a useful learning exercise
14:25:11 <pbrobinson> but most people just want to complain why it's not working, or why it doesn't work exactly like Raspbiajn, not to help improve or fix it
14:25:23 <dgilmore> :(
14:25:47 <bexelbie> it, like a distro, is an indirect problem solver for most people
14:25:52 <pbrobinson> bexelbie: the only Uni program I'm aware of fits into category 2 above, complaining why it's not exactly like Raspbian
14:25:59 <langdon> pbrobinson: there is a hardware "club" at boston uni that might be interested.. i can ask next week
14:26:31 * bexelbie has no idea what it takes to "enable" hardware ... I wonder if we could explain the art/science and attract some folks
14:26:44 <pbrobinson> langdon: cool, that would be great, I'll be in town for RH Summit, and I might be coming earlier due to other meetings so I can always meet up with interested people then
14:26:53 <langdon> pbrobinson: do you want any feedback on the docs here? i just have a general comment
14:27:09 <pbrobinson> langdon: if it's quick, here is fine
14:27:15 <langdon> pbrobinson: thats cool.. i think we could arrange for you to come and speak if you wanted to .. they would appreciate it
14:27:15 <pbrobinson> else a ticket would be great
14:28:00 <pbrobinson> langdon: would be happy to do that
14:28:02 <langdon> pbrobinson: basically.. i would like an "approach" section.. i go to getting started and there is almost immediately a ref to getting containers.. which is a little confusing if you don't know thta the iot spin is ostree
14:28:33 <langdon> so.. like.. somewhere "this is what we want to accomplish" .. which i am not seeing
14:28:41 <pbrobinson> langdon: could you do me a ticket here? #topic 2) ==== Fedora 29 release 2 status ====
14:28:44 <pbrobinson> bah
14:28:49 <pbrobinson> here https://pagure.io/fedora-iot/iot-docs
14:29:03 <langdon> yep
14:29:19 <pbrobinson> thanks
14:29:39 <bexelbie> other questions for Peter? Otherwise let's let him get back to the IoT meeting going on in #fedora-meeting
14:29:57 <pbrobinson> we're also still awaiting the go live for the taiga instance
14:30:27 <bexelbie> Jim is at a conference this week - let's get a date on that asap though
14:30:37 <pbrobinson> also we're slowly ramping up for contributions from some Arm partners, there's a bunch of people poking at it now
14:31:02 <dgilmore> nice
14:31:06 <bexelbie> +
14:31:09 <bexelbie> +1
14:31:42 <pbrobinson> some of that is blocking on my available bandwidth
14:32:00 <pbrobinson> Linaro is going to be putting it into their CI platform LAVA
14:32:17 <pbrobinson> so we should have some real time board testing there which will be fun
14:32:32 <langdon> does lava set everything on fire?
14:32:39 <pbrobinson> langdon: LOL
14:33:16 <pbrobinson> https://www.linaro.org/engineering/projects/lava/
14:35:38 <bexelbie> other questions for pbrobinson ?
14:35:50 <bexelbie> given the silence (someone talked to me locally) - lets move on
14:35:56 <bexelbie> #topic Open Floor
14:36:01 <bexelbie> Any open floor conversation?
14:36:08 <pbrobinson> nothing from me
14:36:16 <pbrobinson> feel free to reach out with any queries
14:36:37 * langdon works on pbrobinson's bug report
14:37:55 <bexelbie> ok, thank you all for coming!
14:38:05 <bexelbie> I am going to end the meeting, barring objection
14:38:14 <langdon> thanks bexelbie!
