Information about MeetBot at http://wiki.debian.org/MeetBot. 13:03:47 Useful Commands: #action #agreed #halp #info #idea #link #topic. 13:03:47 The meeting name has been set to 'cpe_po_office_hours' 13:03:54 #topic Open Floor 13:04:42 #aboutCPE https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/cpe/ 13:04:57 Hi Everyone, hope you are all well! 13:05:44 I reduced my office hours to once per month, on the second Thursday of the month and I planned on sending an agenda to the devel list beforehand but I completely forgot! 13:06:44 I dont have any formal agenda today, so Im happy to chat about whatever 13:08:11 Ive a few updates I will share with you anyway on the initiatives the CPE team will be working on this quarter and we have a few blog posts out too so Ill drop in the links here for anyone who wants them :) 13:14:20 so, Ill start with the quarter 4 project work updates. The CPE team recently had our quarterly planning session on September 18th where representatives from Fedora, CentOS & Red Hat business unit attend and vote on projects we have in our backlog that they would like actioned 13:15:14 I usually send the projects were looking at in advance of the session to the council discuss mailing list for fedora and the centos board mailing list too so people know what were thinking of working on 13:17:24 Quarter 4 is the months of October, November & December, and there is also a lot of time off with holidays so we decided to choose project(s) that are smaller and more achievable in a shorter period 13:18:01 amoloney: I don't have anything for you, but would like to thank you for holding office hours :) 13:19:23 And because the Noggin project is so important and CentOS stream is too, and we still have to keep space for keeping the 'lights on' in both infrastructures through our infra & releng team, we decided to only take on OSBS for aarch64 and continue progressing the fedora-messaging schemas work that we were doing in Q3 13:19:34 Aw thanks dustymabe ! :) 13:19:46 Its my pleasure to be here 13:20:22 glad to have you 13:21:17 I dont mind if its quiet either, I can use this space to share info on what were doing & I like to include the minutes in the CPE weekly too for some 'late night reading' :) 13:22:43 the follow up for the gitlab AMA is still on the plate and hasn't been forgotten, right? 13:23:32 nope not at all the blog post came out on Tuesday and I was planning on starting the email topic discussions next week 13:23:48 šŸŽ‰ 13:23:54 glad to hear that! 13:24:18 and a minor/OT question: any development about community-shift? 13:24:31 I recal reading something about gdpr issues 13:25:34 It went on the back burner for me, being completetly honest with some other things that got my attention more aggressively, but (and I hope I havent jinxed it now) Ive a little more time to give to the GitLab discussion so Im going to start it next week :) 13:28:10 Communishift is in a bit of a holding pattern right now. What I understand is that while its under some sort of Red Hat 'ownership' - and ownership is probably the wrong word here so forgive me and please dont read into it, I just cant think of a better one - the GDPR policies are fine, as in we are compliant. But if maintainers who are not employed by Red Hat take it over, it holds information on users that would 13:28:10 make the application in breach of GDPR 13:28:46 yikes 13:29:00 so I know my management are looking into areas within Red Hat who would take over the maintenance and running of Communishift as its valuable to the commuity 13:29:33 so just a thought here: how different is communityshift to a cloud provider? 13:29:52 a cloud provider has contracts :) 13:29:57 because if I deploy "crap" to GCE, I get in trouble 13:30:01 ah 13:30:04 makes sense 13:30:16 but also, a cloud provider is staffed to deal with that 13:30:40 true as well 13:30:41 the pb is not GDPR, cause we would be root and we could clean stuff. It would just requires more ressources 13:31:02 I dont really have much more info on that one as Im not part of the talks directly but when I do get updated from management I literally cannot wait to bring some good news to the devel lists for once šŸ¤£ 13:31:38 oh yeah, I really don't want to be in your position: most of the community probably hates you ā˜¹ļø 13:31:49 what happened to don't shoot the messengerā€¦ 13:32:06 thanks for all your work though 13:32:24 and for being approachable and listening 13:32:33 even though no one comes here to talk 13:32:44 or just dump crap on you (like in the first office hours) 13:33:33 aw thats ok, I know its not personal and most people just feel frustrated 13:34:15 plus 13 years in customer service prior to red hat gives you a little more thicker skin šŸ¤£ 13:35:06 yeah, customer services is kinda literally being paid to take angst from decision you didn't made :( 13:35:59 Oh wow, 13 years of customer service! 13:36:02 I worked in an airport for a number of years and thought telling 70 people their flight was cancelled alone was bad 13:36:16 then GitLab happened hahahaha šŸ¤£ 13:36:31 There is a new record now! :) 13:37:50 thank you for your support though, I really do appreciate it and I like having conversations with people to understand more about fedora and why things are so important 13:39:03 and if this hour a month facilitates good conversation, whether people participate or are just happy to read it after, then I consider it worthwhile to do 13:40:50 So the only other updates I really have that are work related are we have a blog post on what we achieved in Q3 out here https://communityblog.fedoraproject.org/cpe-achievements-during-q3-2020/ 13:41:07 the GitLab AMA blog is here https://communityblog.fedoraproject.org/gitlab-ama-follow-up/ 13:41:28 and I will be publishing the CPE Q4 plans blog tomorrow too 13:42:26 I will include the topics that are in the hackmd for gitlab in my weekly email tomorrow and people can +1 under which topic they want to start with then for the following Friday 23rd Oct 13:43:26 whichever seems most popular we can start with and Ill pull in the questions and responses that relate to that topic in the email and send it in for people to discuss 13:44:40 I need to point out one thing though, Im more than happy to facilitate the conversation but I dont consider myself technical enough to weigh in on the discussion. Id rather just provide a space for people to talk and learn from the discussion myself 13:51:07 amoloney, I don't know anyone who hates you, but if there is someone.. they clearly need to look up and see all the efforts you and we (CPE) is putting. don't want to start a conversation on how good/bad CPE is: that's not useful but I see how much we are trying.. and you are amazing for everything you do. Thank you 13:51:44 Thanks Vipul :) 13:51:58 also, if there is someone who hates you, we can always share the 30 seconds clip. That would change things, right? 13:52:51 Without sounding full of shit (ding) I consider myself very lucky to work with a great team in two great communities who seem 9 times out of 10 very friendly and welcoming 13:53:29 that 1 out of 10 was me when I didn't get to participate in the games, right? 13:53:52 It was, how did you know?! 13:54:17 either that or its Mohan when he doesnt win haha 13:54:22 haha because.. I was the person acting.. rude XD 13:54:39 actually speaking of games, the F33 release party looks like a lot of fun! 13:54:47 I need to sign up for Friday! 13:54:57 mboddu will see worse if I don't get some Turkish delights.. haven't even tried it 13:55:32 amoloney, https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/F33_Virtual_Release_Party_Event_Signup 13:55:48 And for anyone interested Sarah and I are talking, me informally coz I struggle with bizzness terms, about our experiences in Fedora which Im really looking forward to 13:56:06 siddharthvipul: ++ 13:56:11 * siddharthvipul:++ 13:56:18 is that how you give karma? 13:56:27 clearly not! 13:56:56 amoloney, you are talking in Fedora Women's Day right?
