15:30:17 <nirik> any folks around for a quick mobility sig meeting?
15:30:25 <torsh[m]> hey there 👋
15:31:29 <nirik> hey. Might be a quick meeting today I guess.
15:31:37 <nirik> lets wait a few min for others to wander in
15:31:46 <torsh[m]> Sounds good :)
15:35:47 <nirik> #topic remix status / issues / plans
15:36:19 <nirik> ok, anything to discuss around the remix? I updated my phone the other day, but haven't really poked at anything recently. ;(
15:36:22 <nirik> not enough time. ;(
15:37:01 <nirik> as far as I can see, things are slowly getting better... but perhaps more slowly than they were before.
15:37:05 <torsh[m]> Nothing too out of the ordinary. A small hiccup with audio for a few days but rawhide is rawhide :)
15:37:31 <nirik> the python 3.10 change landing doesn't seem to have affected anything, which is good.
15:37:45 <torsh[m]> 👏
15:38:59 <nirik> is mms working now? or still in progress?
15:39:02 <torsh[m]> My usual list of wants and plans: mmsd packaging in Fedora (waiting a little for chatty to get started on support for it), eg25-manager support (needs some extra device work, since it conflicts with current setup).
15:39:53 <torsh[m]> mmsd is making some great progress. But the front end in chatty isn't yet available. I've been told that they are waiting on an MR relating to native sms support
15:39:56 <torsh[m]> (removing the need for purple-mm-sms)
15:40:07 <nirik> oh nice.
15:40:17 <nirik> chatty has matrix support too right? or plans to ?
15:40:30 <torsh[m]> It has it now, but is behind the experimental feature flag.
15:40:45 <torsh[m]> I've tried it out, and it works alright. encrypted rooms tend to be a bit hinky 😅
15:41:29 <nirik> thats true on many matrix clients. :)
15:41:31 <torsh[m]> You also have to manually verify the session for encryption to work, if you use that.
15:41:49 <torsh[m]> > thats true on many matrix clients. :)
15:41:49 <torsh[m]> fair enough xD
15:42:23 <torsh[m]> As an alternative I've been using FluffyChat for matrix from Flathub, but it is a bit heavy and has some really funny bugs
15:42:43 * nirik nods
15:43:04 <nirik> ok, anything else here...
15:43:11 <torsh[m]> Otherwise been pretty normal. Regular package updates etc...
15:43:41 <torsh[m]> I wanted to get some time to start digging into a setup using btrfs and a more "fedora" kernel, but time is running away from me lately :(
15:43:42 <nirik> #topic fedora mainline plans
15:43:53 <nirik> yeah, I sure hear that. :)
15:44:14 <torsh[m]> For mainline, would you happen to know how UCM profiles are supported?
15:44:16 <nirik> so really I guess here it's the same story... we need more stuff upstreamed to be able to use a fedora kernel
15:44:23 <torsh[m]> yup ^
15:44:33 <nirik> no idea off hand. ;(
15:44:52 <nirik> I've not booted a rawhide image in a while. Might try and do that just to see that it still boots.
15:45:13 <torsh[m]> Oh, there was a regression that stopped it from booting, but then it got fixed :) so, last I tried it does boot.
15:45:21 <nirik> but we really need some networking... wifi, wan, usb-c ethernet, something.
15:45:28 <torsh[m]> But that's about it heh...
15:45:37 <torsh[m]> Yup, and I didn't see any of that just yet.
15:45:59 <nirik> yeah... it's all not upstreamed yet. ;(
15:46:39 <torsh[m]> I'm not sure how those pieces are moved around.
15:47:21 <nirik> well, the wifi is a seperate driver... wan is modem support, usb-c ethernet... not sure whats involved in that.
15:48:15 <torsh[m]> I am really confused then about eg25-manager. https://gitlab.com/mobian1/devices/eg25-manager
15:48:19 <nirik> I was interested to read the other day there were some folks working to upstream support for some newer phones... oneplus 6/6t
15:48:52 <nirik> but there's a bunch that still doesn't work there.
15:49:51 <torsh[m]> That would be a really cool addition to the list 👀
15:50:00 <nirik> yeah, I don't quite get the eg25-manager thing...
15:50:05 <torsh[m]> Does the eg25-manager not look like it would handle the modem itself?
15:50:21 <torsh[m]> The description makes it look like it should.
15:50:44 <torsh[m]> But I suppose if the device tree doesn't even know the modem is there then it won't matter 😅
15:50:46 <nirik> yeah... I guess my question is what does that for all other modems? part of the modem drivers?
15:51:13 <torsh[m]> Other modems would need their own driver or manager.
15:51:38 <torsh[m]> This manager, from what I read, is essentially the modem driver from megi's kernel, migrated into a user daemon instead.
15:52:45 <nirik> yeah, dunno. I guess first we need a kernel/uboot that can see the modem... that isn't megi's kernel
15:53:00 <torsh[m]> Yes. Exactly.
15:53:18 <torsh[m]> But then I'm back to the issue of not knowing how those parts are moving around 😅
15:53:49 * pbrobinson is here, sorry I'm late
15:54:01 <torsh[m]> Hey! Glad you could make it.
15:54:05 <nirik> hey pbrobinson
15:54:47 <nirik> #topic Open Floor / all other business
15:54:55 <nirik> Anything else to go over?
15:55:05 <pbrobinson> torsh[m]: UCM profiles are supported in Fedora
15:55:25 <torsh[m]> do I make a PR against the alsa package with UCM in it?
15:55:26 <pbrobinson> I was looking at a sun50i profile for upstreaming the other day
15:55:40 <torsh[m]> May have been the one I saw :)
15:55:45 <pbrobinson> no, it needs to go upstream into the upstream bundle
15:56:14 <torsh[m]> Ah, the very upstream. Cool, I'll look at that.
15:56:29 <pbrobinson> I have been slowly poking at kernel stuff but not got anything to the point I have pushed anything upstream
15:57:03 <pbrobinson> but that's most of what I have
15:57:35 <torsh[m]> Well that's still good to know :)
15:58:05 <nirik> cool.
15:58:16 <nirik> time is always in short supply
15:58:27 <torsh[m]> Darn time 🤔
15:58:38 <pbrobinson> I've been working to polish the pinebook pro stuff stuff some more because OMG I didn't expect so many people wanting everything on a silver platter
15:59:17 <torsh[m]> Have I said thank you yet for that by the way? Because my pbp has gotten so much use now :D
15:59:22 <nirik> yeah, that seemed very popular... lots of people had those and were waiting for fedora on them it seems
15:59:34 <pbrobinson> but there's been some stuff there which will roll into PP too
15:59:53 <torsh[m]> Awesome!
16:00:01 * nirik has considered picking one up, but meh, I have too much hardware already
16:00:11 <pbrobinson> I'm working with someone to get UEFI BGRT which will give us smooth boot on a bunch of devices
16:00:26 <pjones> mmm, bmp.
16:00:35 <pbrobinson> pjones: exactly!
16:01:18 <nirik> cool
16:02:02 <nirik> anyhow, if nothing else will close out in a minute...
16:02:57 <torsh[m]> I've got nothing left.
16:03:30 <nirik> ok, thanks for coming!
