19:01:14 <jonatoni> it seems this channel is free
19:01:21 <jonatoni> next meeting is in hour
19:01:24 <mattdm> no this is Fedora council meeting
19:01:36 <mattdm> pretty sure it's properly reserved
19:01:42 <jwb> hello
19:01:53 <jonatoni> oh sorry, mattdm
19:02:04 <mattdm> hi jwb. haven't seen you for a while :)
19:02:11 <mattdm> This is suposed to be the objectives update
19:02:12 <jwb> yes. i feel bad about this
19:02:20 <mattdm> but I think dperpeet is out
19:02:31 <mattdm> and pbrobinson hasn't responded to me all day so i think he is too.
19:02:51 <mattdm> (I think maybe he's got a family thing)
19:03:02 <mattdm> which for objectives update leaves langdon
19:03:16 * jonatoni just saw the Council meeting is happening, sorry for the noise here
19:03:26 <mattdm> so jonatoni -- we may be able to be out of here in a few minutes
19:03:28 <langdon> I'm here.. but on mobile for 5-10
19:03:48 <mattdm> okay. so, question is: do you have anything to report on modularity?
19:04:00 <mattdm> as I understand it, we're in a holding pattern waiting for dnf updates
19:04:11 <mattdm> and that the dnf fixes have been "daily slip" for the past... 30 days.
19:04:20 <langdon> not a lot.. we have some open issues as a result of the arch change that are getting resolved
19:04:31 <langdon> that too
19:04:44 <dgilmore> hi
19:04:49 <mattdm> #topic Modularity Update
19:05:02 <dgilmore> langdon: what did you break now ;)
19:05:09 <mattdm> Are any of the issues particularly... interesting?
19:05:27 <mattdm> Are they help-needed, or likely to affect the overall schedule?
19:05:27 <langdon> dgilmore nothing today!
19:05:43 <langdon> neither and complicated
19:05:44 <dgilmore> langdon: clearly not trying hard enough
19:06:01 <dgilmore> langdon: how are improvements for f29 coming along?
19:06:07 <langdon> like arch choices
19:06:30 <langdon> libdnf still in progress
19:06:49 <mattdm> arch choices?
19:07:09 <nb> hello
19:07:11 * nb is here for a while
19:07:12 <mattdm> architecture of modules, or hardware arch? or something else?
19:07:14 <mattdm> hi nb!
19:07:26 <langdon> like how resolution happens between modules and urine rpms.. particularly in the build root
19:07:33 <nb> i have a meeting at in about 23 minutes so i won't be able to make the whole meeting, sorry
19:07:43 <mattdm> nb I think we'll be done by then anyway.
19:08:02 <mattdm> langdon: Uh. I'm going to assume that was a phone autocomplete?
19:08:23 <langdon> ha.. ursine
19:09:02 <langdon> bare rpm, bear rpm, ursine rpm, etc
19:09:26 <mattdm> ahhhhhh.
19:09:41 <mattdm> That took me a bit to figure out even with the *right* words :)
19:09:53 <mattdm> So why is the buildroot question just coming up now?
19:10:00 <langdon> be glad I didn't say medved rpm!
19:10:34 <langdon> if you want modularized content available to build a plain rpm..
19:11:18 <mattdm> Ah, I see. *Do* we want that?
19:11:38 <jwb> yes
19:12:41 <dgilmore> langdon: what is the timeline for that? will it need changes in koji? such as the ability to tag a modules into a tag?
19:13:12 <dgilmore> have we talked with the koji folks about how support for it would be designed?
19:13:18 <mattdm> jwb: This is harder than the "everything is a module" picture :-/
19:13:37 <jwb> mattdm, the "everthing is a module" picture turned out to be impossible.
19:14:15 <langdon> dgilmore: we don't have the answer yet.. so we don't know.. we are more identifying a few issues.. but we haven't gotten solutions identified yet
19:14:32 <mattdm> jwb: yeah, but the picture was nice
19:14:55 <mattdm> I'm still adjusting my mental model.
19:15:32 <langdon> jwb: pfft.. not impossible.. just an everything module was impossible :/
19:15:40 <mattdm> langdon: so, what's the ideal timeframe for this?
19:15:50 <dgilmore> langdon: okay, I just know they have their next 3 -6 months work mostly mapped out
19:16:00 <dgilmore> so getting them involved sooner is better
19:16:04 <langdon> so.. the new arch introduces some new problems is all.. most of them we can work around but would rather solve more cleanly..
19:17:07 <langdon> dgilmore: right... fundamentally there are some challenges with koji doesn't build buildroots through a "compose" concept.. which introduces a bunch of challenges.. and, AIUI, has issues even in the bare rpm world
19:18:30 <langdon> re timing) i think we can fix through policy and work arounds while we sort out the solution and implement them.. so tomorrow would be nice, but f30 is probably fine too
19:19:07 <mattdm> ok. that's ... relaxing. :)
19:19:19 <mattdm> Anything else we should know? I'm happy to close this meeting early
19:19:26 <dgilmore> langdon: sure, one of the things they are actually looking at is flexible buildroot options, using things like different versions of mock, containers, openshift, etc. making sure they are engaged should help find soultions
19:19:43 <langdon> dgilmore: right
19:20:07 <langdon> docs are improving.. we have a new magazine post.. with more planned to follow..
19:20:10 * langdon thinks
19:20:51 <langdon> also been improving creation tooling.. fedmod has had some major changes to deal with new architecture.. and a 1.0 has been (or is about to be) released
19:21:16 <langdon> but we are working on more useful improvements. IIRC they are doc'd in the issue tracker on fedmod in pagure
19:21:58 <langdon> i think that is about all i have
19:22:16 <mattdm> #info module creation tooling is getting better -- new fedmod release
19:22:26 <mattdm> #info look for Magazine articles soon
19:22:29 <mattdm> thanks!
19:22:31 <langdon> one today
19:22:44 <mattdm> anything else, anyone?

19:23:34 <mattdm> awesome thanks.
19:23:43 <mattdm> Okay, I'm ending the meeting. Thanks all!
