!topic fifofonix to bring up a 1.28 cluster with zswap
<@spresti:fedora.im>
16:42:46
If I recall fifofonix is out or not going to be able to do this last week
<@spresti:fedora.im>
16:42:50
so we can re-action it
<@apiaseck:matrix.org>
16:43:14
As far as I remember dustymabe mentioned it... anyone would like to introduce it?
<@apiaseck:matrix.org>
16:43:33
(AFAIK Dusty's not around today)
<@jlebon:fedora.im>
16:43:53
yeah, let's just re-action that one
<@apiaseck:matrix.org>
16:44:12
!action fifofonix to bring up a 1.28 cluster with zswap
<@jlebon:fedora.im>
16:44:14
i don't think there's any expectation that this happens soon as he made it clear
<@apiaseck:matrix.org>
16:44:42
Sorry if I've re-actioned that one too fast...
<@spresti:fedora.im>
16:44:53
Nope that was good
<@apiaseck:matrix.org>
16:45:12
Cool, let's move to another subject
<@apiaseck:matrix.org>
16:45:17
!topic Stopping Updates for legacy CoreOS/fcct repository on Quay
<@apiaseck:matrix.org>
16:45:24
!link https://github.com/coreos/fedora-coreos-tracker/issues/1678
<@apiaseck:matrix.org>
16:46:05
I can't see Yasmin around here either, anyone to touch base on this subject?
<@jlebon:fedora.im>
16:46:36
i can speak to that
<@apiaseck:matrix.org>
16:46:46
Thank you!
<@jlebon:fedora.im>
16:47:07
a while ago, butane was called fcct. we pushed out releases to quay.io/coreos/fcct.
<@jlebon:fedora.im>
16:47:30
when we renamed to butane, we kept the fcct container repo up to date during releases to not break people
<@jlebon:fedora.im>
16:48:01
this ticket is asking to stop updating fcct entirely and formally turn off that repo
<@ravanelli:matrix.org>
16:48:07
.hi
<@spresti:fedora.im>
16:48:19
100! would be down for that.
<@spresti:fedora.im>
16:48:29
Can we see how many pulls its getting?
<@jlebon:fedora.im>
16:49:34
spresti: good question, let me check
<@jlebon:fedora.im>
16:50:36
looks like a couple per day
<@spresti:fedora.im>
16:50:55
Can you see the tag that is pulled? or is it not specific
<@apiaseck:matrix.org>
16:51:00
Sorry for being silly here, where do we see stats regarding number of pull's on quay?
<@jlebon:fedora.im>
16:51:09
e.g. 4 pulls yesterday, 3 pulls the day before
<@spresti:fedora.im>
16:51:29
I think you need the correct perms
<@jlebon:fedora.im>
16:51:40
so really not much
apiaseck there's a "Logs" tab but yeah, you might not have access
<@ravanelli:matrix.org>
16:51:45
We probably should send a note about turning it off, with a deadline for it. So people may know
<@jlebon:fedora.im>
16:52:00
Renata Ravanelli: my thoughts as well
<@apiaseck:matrix.org>
16:52:00
Thanks.
<@spresti:fedora.im>
16:52:04
We have the info of the repo say its depricated for a while.
<@spresti:fedora.im>
16:52:22
https://quay.io/repository/coreos/fcct?tab=info
<@jlebon:fedora.im>
16:52:25
note also we ship an `fcct` compat symlink in the butane package
<@spresti:fedora.im>
16:52:46
ah, I was not aware of that.
<@spresti:fedora.im>
16:52:48
Ok
<@spresti:fedora.im>
16:52:53
that would make sense though,
<@spresti:fedora.im>
16:52:59
so
<@jlebon:fedora.im>
16:53:28
that one is obviously trivial to maintain, though we could also take the opportunity to stop doing that
<@spresti:fedora.im>
16:54:06
I prepose we make an update to the butane package, stating the next version is the last with the compat in the release notes. and then just drop it after the next release?
<@ravanelli:matrix.org>
16:54:06
Is there a reason why we have this fcct symlink?
<@marmijo:fedora.im>
16:55:54
That sounds like a good plan to me. Is it enough to communicate it over the release notes?
<@ravanelli:matrix.org>
16:56:17
I can also sent a message in the fcos list
<@jlebon:fedora.im>
16:56:22
Renata Ravanelli: for the same reason: compatibility :)
<@ravanelli:matrix.org>
16:56:48
s/I/We
<@jlebon:fedora.im>
16:56:49
yeah, i think a list email would be good. now, we *could* actually combine this with the f40 communications email
<@mnguyen:fedora.im>
16:57:40
sounds good to me
<@jlebon:fedora.im>
16:58:09
it's not a perfect match because butane is an upstream project with its own release schedule, but... it's easier to communicate if it's bundled with it
<@spresti:fedora.im>
16:58:27
so
an action to update release(upcoming release) with dropping of fcct compat, and communicate it in the f40 communication email?
<@ravanelli:matrix.org>

16:59:23

<@jlebon:fedora.im>
16:59:33
spresti: well, that depends on timing. we can't remove it from butane before we communicate it
<@jbtrystram:matrix.org>
16:59:48
+1
<@spresti:fedora.im>
17:00:31
Ah yes sorry, my english was not well formed, yes that is what I ment; to communicate that we are dropping compat
<@jlebon:fedora.im>
17:00:44
so i would phrase it as e.g. "remove the fcct compat symlink from the pkg and quay.io update from the release checklist in the butane release following the f40 rebase"
<@spresti:fedora.im>

<@apiaseck:matrix.org>
17:01:40

17:02:59
Thank you all for voting
<@jlebon:fedora.im>
17:03:22
apiaseck: i think it's more a proposal than an action, no?
<@apiaseck:matrix.org>
17:03:34
:) Offcourse it is heh
<@jlebon:fedora.im>
17:03:51
spresti: we have a tracker issue to track things to include when we write up that email

<@spresti:fedora.im>
17:04:37
!proposed is not a thing in matrix
<@jlebon:fedora.im>
17:04:41
try "!undo" twice, and then redo the agreed

<@jlebon:fedora.im>
17:09:18
i guess we should've mentioned that we'll communicate it as part of the f40 rebase; we can add that directly in the ticket when you post that agreement

i think let's skip that one. this is linked to the swap on zram discussion from last week as we previously agreed we'd bundle the changes together: https://github.com/coreos/fedora-coreos-tracker/issues/859#issuecomment-867125032
