The Meeting Name is now epel
<@rcallicotte:fedora.im>
18:26:25

!topic General Issues / Open Floor
<@dherrera:fedora.im>
18:26:50
Woops
<@tdawson:fedora.im>
18:27:03
That's what I get for having my "End Meeting" and My "Open Floor" right next to each other. :(
<@tdawson:fedora.im>
18:27:33
Very sorry about that.
<@nhanlon:beeper.com>
18:27:39
deja vu all over again!
<@nhanlon:beeper.com>
18:27:44
all good, happens :)
<@carlwgeorge:matrix.org>
18:28:26
an open floor thing, epel.io now works again
<@carlwgeorge:matrix.org>
18:28:30
<@tdawson:fedora.im>
18:28:46
Oh cool
<@rcallicotte:fedora.im>
18:28:48
nice!!
<@tdawson:fedora.im>
18:28:52
Who owns it now?
<@carlwgeorge:matrix.org>
18:29:30
fedora has owned it for years. i originally purchased it and donated it.
<@carlwgeorge:matrix.org>
18:29:43
it was just broken for some reason for a long time
<@pgreco:fedora.im>
18:30:41
oh, nice. I don't think I ever knew it existed
<@tdawson:fedora.im>
18:31:48
I do have a bit of CentOS Stream 10 news. It is now on the mirrors.
<@tdawson:fedora.im>
18:32:14
But it's still not ready, we haven't had the big mass rebuild yet. Nor are the repo's pointing at the mirrors yet.
<@rcallicotte:fedora.im>
18:32:23
nice!
<@pgreco:fedora.im>
18:32:39
almost there!
<@jonathanspw:fedora.im>
18:32:45
!hi
<@zodbot:fedora.im>
18:32:46
Jonathan Wright (jonathanspw)
<@tdawson:fedora.im>
18:32:51
Hi Jonathan Wright
<@nhanlon:beeper.com>
18:33:19
great job Troy Dawson and team!
<@nhanlon:beeper.com>
18:33:48
hey Jonathan Wright -- happy belated birthday :)
<@jonathanspw:fedora.im>
18:34:09
thank ya!
<@smooge:fedora.im>
18:34:25
ok question since this is the thing that always came up in the past.. are we going to be porting whatever packages were in EL9 to EL10
<@nhanlon:beeper.com>
18:34:53
once they're requested!
<@nhanlon:beeper.com>
18:35:02
(and the owner does it)
<@rcallicotte:fedora.im>
18:35:28
I always thought that was discretionary
<@carlwgeorge:matrix.org>
18:35:33
my cookie cutter answer for that is epel isn't a defined content set, and it's up to individual maintainers to build their packages for each version
<@tdawson:fedora.im>
18:35:38
Stephen J Smoogen: Normal packages, nope. eln-extra packages .... I believe we are going to have them branched.
<@jonathanspw:fedora.im>
18:36:04
I apologize if I missed it in the scrollback but do we have a hard date for when EPEL10 will get started?
<@smooge:fedora.im>
18:36:13
ok sounds good. i am just expecting a need for an answer bot who can do !wheresmypackage
<@jonathanspw:fedora.im>
18:36:17
I have some things I need to bring up before then
<@tdawson:fedora.im>
18:36:31
Nope
<@jonathanspw:fedora.im>
18:36:47
Are we still *months* out or are we thinking sooner?
<@tdawson:fedora.im>
18:36:54
Better to bring them up sooner, than later.
<@carlwgeorge:matrix.org>
18:37:04
no hard date. i've been telling people to expect it roughly november or december.
<@rcallicotte:fedora.im>
18:37:12
cool
<@jonathanspw:fedora.im>
18:37:15
Trying to gather more data to make the case, hence not bringing it up yet.
<@jonathanspw:fedora.im>
18:37:23
Ok perfect, thanks!
<@smooge:fedora.im>
18:37:31
i expect after the mass rebuild and the 'offs it doesn't build????' settles down
<@carlwgeorge:matrix.org>
18:37:34
that said, i would like a soft launch (i.e. no announcement) sooner than that so packagers can get to work
<@rcallicotte:fedora.im>
18:38:20
so maybe soft pre-launch in august time-frame?
<@nhanlon:beeper.com>
18:38:33
(at flock, maybe?)
<@nhanlon:beeper.com>
18:38:44
might be too soon
<@carlwgeorge:matrix.org>
18:39:08
there is an epel10 hackfest accepted for flock, and the idea is we'll either work on infra pieces, or if they're ready by then just work on adding packages
<@jonathanspw:fedora.im>
18:39:34
that sounds like a blast
<@tdawson:fedora.im>
18:39:39
The mass rebuild "should" be done by mid July ... hopefully sooner ... so Flock timeframe does sound good for a soft launch.
<@nhanlon:beeper.com>
18:39:43
excellent!
<@tdawson:fedora.im>
18:42:32
Slightly related to that, I'm working on a KDE rebuild on COPR for 10 ... I meant it to be fairly small, but when I hit the ffmpeg dependency ... it's not being as small as I'd like.
<@pgreco:fedora.im>
18:43:32
ffmpeg is always fun
<@pgreco:fedora.im>
18:43:44
aren't the guys from rpmfusion doing that one already?
<@pgreco:fedora.im>
18:44:04
I mean for 9, but as a starting point
<@tdawson:fedora.im>
18:44:34
Oh, ffmpeg (free version) is in epel9.
<@tdawson:fedora.im>
18:45:00
And that's what this is. The fedora version has everything ...-free
<@pgreco:fedora.im>
18:45:24
yeap, it got included when fedora got vlc iirc
<@smooge:fedora.im>
18:45:33
there are generally 2 forms of ffmpeg. Fedora/EPEL does the 'Can be used in the US' and RPMfusion does the 'can be used in any country that various companies haven't successfully sued in yet'
<@tdawson:fedora.im>
18:46:40
I laughed, and then I cried ... hense the emoji.
<@nhanlon:beeper.com>
18:46:52
i had an open floor thing real quick: i'm going to branch cowsql for epel9 and then bring in `incus` with Conan Kudo 's help. we are interested in it for openstack-ansible, and there's a number of Rocky Linux users interested in it, too.. so, yeah.
<@jonathanspw:fedora.im>
18:47:18
I've heard a lot about incus lately and was going to start looking into it as well. If you need a hand let me know.
<@nhanlon:beeper.com>
18:47:31
thanks! looks relatively straight forward
<@jonathanspw:fedora.im>
18:47:40
I knew there was already an open review for it last I looked but i hadn't looked at it beyond that.
<@nhanlon:beeper.com>
18:48:49
Yeah I had the review and then got busy and so Michel ended up approving it.. but it's just cowsql as a dependency for incus in epel9, and I got it to build for x86 at least :P
<@tdawson:fedora.im>
18:49:06
I was thinking cowsql was similar to couch ... but looks like no.
<@tdawson:fedora.im>
18:49:28
Sorry, ya'll probrubly already knew that ....
<@tdawson:fedora.im>
18:50:04
Any other Open Floor Items?
<@carlwgeorge:matrix.org>
18:50:22

<@smooge:fedora.im>
18:50:37

<@jonathanspw:fedora.im>
18:50:42

18:51:03

<@tdawson:fedora.im>
18:51:14
That's right, I wasn't planning on being around.
