Jonathan Lebon: Wanna introduce this?
<@jlebon:fedora.im>
16:40:53
sure
<@jlebon:fedora.im>
16:41:02
well, i guess this might end up being a shorter conversation than expected
<@jlebon:fedora.im>
16:41:25
i didn't realize that we didn't yet build kernel-rt in Fedora, so that needs to happen first as Christian pointed out
<@jlebon:fedora.im>
16:42:04
it's probably not worth digging into the details of how we want to implement this until that happens
<@jlebon:fedora.im>
16:42:56
but basically, the request here is being able to use FCOS with the rt kernel, and that has some parallels with fedora-bootc too
<@jlebon:fedora.im>
16:43:08
anyway, i think let's skip this for now. i'll remove the meeting label
<@gurssing:matrix.org>
16:43:34
Fair enough. We don't have any other issues for us this week. Will move to Open floor then.
<@jlebon:fedora.im>
16:43:41
also feels like possibly some overlap with Fedora IoT

<@dustymabe:matrix.org>
16:45:15
sorry I was at an appointment
<@dustymabe:matrix.org>
16:46:12
I think there was one thing we wanted to discuss related to releases for the rest of the year
<@marmijo:fedora.im>
16:46:27
About a week ago I mentioned in the Fedora CoreOS channel that we have world-wide holidays and a company recharge break that will affect most of the release engineers at the end of the year. IIRC, in the past we've skipped the release during the last 2 weeks of December. How should we handle that this year?
<@dustymabe:matrix.org>
16:47:17
so we released last week (Nov 25) and we'll release next week (Dec 10)
<@marmijo:fedora.im>
16:47:40
Here's the schedule https://hackmd.io/WCA8XqAoRvafnja01JG_YA?view#Current-Release-Schedule
<@dustymabe:matrix.org>
16:47:42
if we stayed on schedule then the next release would be Dec 24 (Christmas Eve)
<@jlebon:fedora.im>
16:48:29
would it make sense to delay next week's release by one week?
<@jlebon:fedora.im>
16:48:41
and then none until the new year
<@apiaseck:matrix.org>
16:48:59
That’s ok with me (I run next releases)
<@dustymabe:matrix.org>
16:49:08
Jonathan Lebon: perhaps.. that would be two 3 week cadenced releases rather than 1 4 week I think
<@marmijo:fedora.im>
16:49:09
That would work, or cut the 2024-12-24 release a week early
<@dustymabe:matrix.org>
16:49:24
Jonathan Lebon: perhaps.. that would be two 3 week cadenced releases rather than one 4 week I think
<@jlebon:fedora.im>
16:49:31
dustymabe: yeah, exactly
<@fifofonix:matrix.org>
16:50:09
...as a consumer i'd definitely vote to avoid a 24th release...even though i'm expecting it to be smooth...
<@jlebon:fedora.im>
16:50:46
fifofonix: a bit hard to do anyway with everyone offline :)
<@siosm:matrix.org>
16:51:38
I would vote for less releases, unless a security issues comes up and that throws our plans away
<@siosm:matrix.org>
16:52:02
they tend to pop up last week of December the last few years :/

16:54:50
Hearing no objections, I'll update the schedule. Thanks!
<@dustymabe:matrix.org>
16:54:56
I assume a heads up to coreos-status would be nice? Assuming we agree on that, can someone take an action to compose and send that email?
<@jlebon:fedora.im>
16:55:34
dustymabe: do we usually send something out for EOY break?
<@marmijo:fedora.im>
16:56:18
I can take care of the email too if no one else wants to
<@jlebon:fedora.im>
16:56:25
looks like we did last year, but not the years before
<@dustymabe:matrix.org>
16:56:47
Jonathan Lebon: i think it depends
<@dustymabe:matrix.org>
16:57:14
1. did we actually adjust the schedule
<@dustymabe:matrix.org>
16:57:14
2. did we think about it early enough to know we needed to tell people

https://lists.fedoraproject.org/archives/list/coreos-status@lists.fedoraproject.org/message/NWKUKQHTLOK5BONYE7GPWCS3MJXH4C6P/ is the previous one we could copy from
<@jlebon:fedora.im>
16:58:05
SGTM
<@jlebon:fedora.im>
16:58:49
well, not really worth copying from that one actually... (reading it now)
<@jlebon:fedora.im>
16:59:19
the reason we skipped it back then was different from just "it's holiday season"
<@marmijo:fedora.im>
16:59:27
Yeah, it's not exactly the same, but I can write a status post for "End of Year Fedora CoreOS Release Schedule"
<@gurssing:matrix.org>
17:00:10
!action: marmijo to send an email and update release schedule for EOY releases.
<@gurssing:matrix.org>
17:02:00
Anything else that needs to be discussed?
<@gurssing:matrix.org>
17:02:39
If not, I'll close the meeting in about two minutes:)
