<@davdunc:fedora.im>
15:07:13
!info #441 cloud images are missing `saved_entry` in grubenv -- I was supposed to follow up on that, but I didn't get a chance.

!action davdunc to follow up with Martin on #441 cloud images are missing `saved_entry` in grubenv.
<@davdunc:fedora.im>
15:08:54
There is nothing new with a meeting tag.
<@davdunc:fedora.im>
15:09:12
Is there anything that anyone wants to discuss?
<@jcline:fedora.im>
15:09:49
Not much from me. A heads-up that I bumped cloud-init to 25.2 in Rawhide and f43, and pulled in https://src.fedoraproject.org/rpms/cloud-init/pull-request/51
<@davdunc:fedora.im>
15:10:27
!info Jeremy Cline bumped cloud-init to 25.2 in Rawhide and f43, and pulled in https://src.fedoraproject.org/rpms/cloud-init/pull-request/51
<@nhanlon:beeper.com>
15:10:31
i have a small update re XCP-NG, specifically that the fedora cloud images seem to "Just Workβ’οΈ" from my recent testing. I just had to build the tools to get metrics propagating, but that package is a long tail for me anyways..
<@davdunc:fedora.im>
15:11:25
That's cool Neil Hanlon (@neil:fedora.im)
<@davdunc:fedora.im>
15:11:34
oh. Neil Hanlon (@nhanlon:beeper.com) ! :D
<@davdunc:fedora.im>
15:11:42
respecting your suffix there. :D
<@nhanlon:beeper.com>
15:11:56
heh π i get notifications for both, so its cool
<@nhanlon:beeper.com>
15:12:03
i may be abandoning beeper soon, anyways.

<@davdunc:fedora.im>
15:12:40
Do we need images including XCP-NG
<@nhanlon:beeper.com>
15:12:56
Probably it'd be good to have images with the xe-guest-utilities baked in
<@jaboutboul:matrix.org>
15:13:46
!hi
<@zodbot:fedora.im>
15:13:47
Jack Aboutboul (jack)
<@nhanlon:beeper.com>
15:13:58
heya Jack π how's it going
<@davdunc:fedora.im>
15:14:39
themayor two days in a row. I must be doing something right.
<@davdunc:fedora.im>
15:14:59
okay. so the License for XCP-ng isn't OSI approved is it?
<@davdunc:fedora.im>
15:15:06
:/
<@nhanlon:beeper.com>
15:15:38
xe-guest-utilities is bsd-2
<@nhanlon:beeper.com>
15:15:42
https://github.com/xenserver/xe-guest-utilities
<@nhanlon:beeper.com>
15:16:07
the rest should be OSI, it's all Xen or forks thereof
<@nhanlon:beeper.com>
15:17:03
https://github.com/xcp-ng/xen-guest-agent this is the new agent, fwiw... but I haven't tried it
<@davdunc:fedora.im>
15:17:12
that we _could_ do. It looks like the real licensing complications come in the ISO.
<@davdunc:fedora.im>
15:17:22
The rest is just Xen.
<@jaboutboul:matrix.org>
15:17:33
me too!
<@davdunc:fedora.im>
15:17:40
:D
<@davdunc:fedora.im>
15:19:10
Where would it have an influence Neil Hanlon (@nhanlon:beeper.com) or anyone else? Is it something we want people who are using Xen now to use to leverage Fedora?
<@davdunc:fedora.im>
15:20:09
It, being xen. I know it _used to_ be a part of the Amazon experience, but any more, it's almost fully replaced with Nitro.
<@nhanlon:beeper.com>
15:20:23
I mentioned it mostly because an XCP-NG image had been something this group (and I) was looking into earlier this year
<@conan_kudo:matrix.org>
15:20:41
!hi
<@zodbot:fedora.im>
15:20:43
Neal Gompa (ngompa) - he / him / his
<@nhanlon:beeper.com>
15:20:56
and really it's just our cloud image w/ an extra package, there's nothing of XCP-NG's or Xen really that is required in our guest image
<@jcline:fedora.im>
15:20:59
Yeah I don't know anything about xen, really, so I can't offer much feedback I'm afraid
<@nhanlon:beeper.com>
15:21:40
i'm an avid XCP-NG and Xen user but I know I'm the minority there lol
<@davdunc:fedora.im>
15:22:56
Conan Kudo Any appetite here that you know about?
<@conan_kudo:matrix.org>
15:24:25
There's a fair bit of small business usage of XCP stuff
<@conan_kudo:matrix.org>
15:24:43
The generic image just needs Xen guest additions
<@nhanlon:beeper.com>
15:25:11
Yeah they have taken a good amount of business stemming from the VMWare debacle
<@conan_kudo:matrix.org>
15:25:21
For xcp
<@nhanlon:beeper.com>
15:25:26
yeah
<@davdunc:fedora.im>
15:25:28
yea.
<@conan_kudo:matrix.org>
15:25:38
But I don't think those are packaged
<@davdunc:fedora.im>
15:25:57
okay, so they would need to be kmods, no?
<@nhanlon:beeper.com>
15:26:06
nope it's all userspace
<@davdunc:fedora.im>
15:26:42
welll then. Add them to the cloud packaging group and we can add them to the generic image for validations.
<@nhanlon:beeper.com>
15:26:44
or, the old one was. I shouldn't speak for the new rust "guest agent" but I expect it is userspace
<@davdunc:fedora.im>
15:27:27
!topic Add XCP-NG to the Cloud Base Image
<@davdunc:fedora.im>
15:28:25
Neil Hanlon (@nhanlon:beeper.com) is that a workgroup kind of thing where we set up some time like Neal and I have done for the Kiwi stuff?
<@davdunc:fedora.im>
15:29:02
If so, we can add some time to the Fedora Calendar and advertise a hack time.
<@conan_kudo:matrix.org>
15:31:24
The kernel stuff is enabled already
<@davdunc:fedora.im>
15:31:42
alright. that's perfect.
<@nhanlon:beeper.com>
15:31:47
depends i think on how many rust dependencies we need π
<@davdunc:fedora.im>
15:32:14
well, do you want to take a stab at adding the packages? No pressure.
<@nhanlon:beeper.com>
15:32:51
Sure, I'll put it on my list to take a look at and ask for help if I need
<@nhanlon:beeper.com>
15:33:02
have been meaning to take a hard look at my packages, anyways
<@nhanlon:beeper.com>
15:33:07
"Does this bring me joy?"
<@davdunc:fedora.im>
15:33:34
The Condo method. :D
<@davdunc:fedora.im>
15:34:31
okay.
<@davdunc:fedora.im>
15:34:57
I'll not make and action item, but we can keep this on the list of "nice to haves" that we would like.
<@nhanlon:beeper.com>
15:35:07
sounds good to me
<@davdunc:fedora.im>
15:35:19
!topic open floor
<@jcline:fedora.im>
15:36:32
Just thought I'd give an update on the automated testing with LISA, which is that I've not started yet, but I plan to probably next week. I'm going to start with Azure and once that's in a good state move on to AWS, etc. Like with the image uploader.
<@davdunc:fedora.im>
15:36:42
!info TX LinuxFest is still accepting CFP proposals.
<@davdunc:fedora.im>
15:37:23
Jeremy Cline is there anything you would like in terms of assistance for the first round efforts?
<@davdunc:fedora.im>
15:37:53
!info Do we need an AI Policy for our Cloud Efforts?
<@jcline:fedora.im>
15:38:14
Not just yet. Bala from my team has already done most of the work, so I'll mostly be doing the work to get it running in infra
<@davdunc:fedora.im>
15:38:27
awesome!
<@jcline:fedora.im>
15:38:50
Once we've moved on to AWS and GCP I'm sure we'll hit things we need help with
<@jaboutboul:matrix.org>
15:38:54
are we not planning on inheriting whatever broader policy we end up adopting for Fedora
<@jaboutboul:matrix.org>
15:39:25
this is great news. let me know if you need any help on this Jeremy Cline
<@davdunc:fedora.im>
15:39:36
themayor we are, but then making targets for how we want to support the AI/ML community broadly should be a part of our PRD.
<@davdunc:fedora.im>
15:40:22
Yes. Jeremy Cline it's so wonderful having you working on these projects.
<@davdunc:fedora.im>
15:40:58

<@davdunc:fedora.im>
