Any other comments for this section?
<@marmijo:fedora.im>
15:38:36
There is a change I'm going to make to the Fedora rebase tracker to move some items around, then I'll start opening tracker issues for F44
<@marmijo:fedora.im>
15:38:55
!topic tracker: Fedora 43 changes considerations
<@marmijo:fedora.im>
15:39:03
<@marmijo:fedora.im>
15:39:19
I ran the script and some new changes were reported, as well as some that were deferred to F44.
<@marmijo:fedora.im>
15:40:09
change 131
<@marmijo:fedora.im>
15:40:18
<@marmijo:fedora.im>
15:40:22
this one came through within the last day or two
<@dustymabe:matrix.org>
15:40:36
yeah. late breaking change
<@dustymabe:matrix.org>
15:40:55
Timothée Ravier (travier): mentioned it in the CoreOS channel
<@marmijo:fedora.im>
15:41:02
from Timothée Ravier (travier): "...we should be good from the FCOS side of things. It might be time to re-open the increasing the /boot partition discussion for FCOS as well"
<@marmijo:fedora.im>
15:43:46
Moving on to change 132
<@marmijo:fedora.im>
15:43:51
<@dustymabe:matrix.org>
15:45:26
I think we should consider updating any packages we own that are currently unbundled
<@dustymabe:matrix.org>
15:46:24
i.e. https://src.fedoraproject.org/rpms/butane/pull-request/27
<@dustymabe:matrix.org>
15:46:38
i.e. https://src.fedoraproject.org/rpms/butane/pull-request/27 is one open PR to do this to butane
<@marmijo:fedora.im>
15:47:49
I can open an issue to track this effort. We can investigate what other packages require this change
<@spresti:fedora.im>
15:48:28
That would be awesome, we have quite a few golang packages not sure if any of them need to be worked on because of this.
<@marmijo:fedora.im>
15:51:17
change 239
<@marmijo:fedora.im>
15:51:18
<@dustymabe:matrix.org>
15:52:34
we don't ship greenboot today, so nothing for us here
<@marmijo:fedora.im>
15:54:34
and change 240 wont affect us either
<@marmijo:fedora.im>
15:54:36
<@marmijo:fedora.im>
15:55:03
and change 240 wont affect ~~us~~ FCOS either
<@marmijo:fedora.im>
15:55:40
That wraps it up for F43 changes
<@dustymabe:matrix.org>
15:55:43
Same I would think
<@marmijo:fedora.im>
15:56:05
I don't see any other topics for today, so let's move on to open floor
<@marmijo:fedora.im>
15:56:25
!topic Open Floor
<@spresti:fedora.im>
15:57:26
I wrote a summary for butane / ignition ux here => https://github.com/coreos/fedora-coreos-tracker/issues/2006#issuecomment-3373351405
<@spresti:fedora.im>
15:57:26
<@spresti:fedora.im>
15:57:26
So there was an action item from last week, I dont think it was captured but
<@spresti:fedora.im>
15:58:01
I also reached out to tormath1 via messages, and github, and he said he would be looking into it when he has time
<@dustymabe:matrix.org>
15:58:15
Thank you for doing that spresti!
<@spresti:fedora.im>
15:58:43
Np :)
<@dustymabe:matrix.org>
15:58:47
I'd say let's hope the feedback comes through, but we shouldn't wait on it either. At least for doing investigation
<@dustymabe:matrix.org>
15:59:17
Unrelated: I wanted to draw attention to the bootc initiative discussion in https://discussion.fedoraproject.org/t/renewing-the-fedora-bootc-now-image-mode-initiative/167131/25
<@dustymabe:matrix.org>
16:00:14
I opened https://gitlab.com/fedora/bootc/tracker/-/issues/77 to start that discussion upstream.
<@dustymabe:matrix.org>
16:00:14
<@dustymabe:matrix.org>
16:00:14
I think in order for Image Mode/bootc to become more prominent in Fedora it needs to address more the direct consume use cases - and part of that is creating boot media.
<@dustymabe:matrix.org>
16:01:12
I see this as very similar to what we do with our boot media in Fedora CoreOS today.
<@dustymabe:matrix.org>
16:01:55
Heck we could even re-use the Fedora CoreOS boot media to solve this problem for Image Mode (after all FCOS, and Atomic Host before that, were the original Image Mode before Image Mode was a thing)
<@dustymabe:matrix.org>
16:02:45
though, one thing I do mention in that ticket, is that the boot media for IM would probably need broader appeal (i.e. support cloud-init)
<@dustymabe:matrix.org>
16:04:00
So we'd either need to create separate boot media for IM, OR additionally support cloud-init in FCOS
<@spresti:fedora.im>
16:05:44
Hmm, before I can really contribute/comment let me context absorb on both links.
<@dustymabe:matrix.org>
16:06:50
spresti: 100% - there's a lot of info dump there.
<@dustymabe:matrix.org>
16:06:50
and to be clear, i'm not even sure the bootc folks want boot media (see discussions in the gitlab issue). It's just my thoughts on if they want it to be a larger thing in Fedora they'd need something like this.
<@dustymabe:matrix.org>
16:06:50
<@walters:fedora.im>
16:09:36
well it's just me commenting in that issue, i'd love if other "bootc folks" did
<@walters:fedora.im>
16:09:58
Ideally also there's not a "they" but "we" here
<@walters:fedora.im>
16:10:34
I'm not opposed to dedicated images at all, but I think "we" should be focused on consolidation - does making something new help consolidate? maybe
<@dustymabe:matrix.org>
16:11:41
Agree. I touch on this in the last sentence of https://gitlab.com/fedora/bootc/tracker/-/issues/77#note_2802341605
<@dustymabe:matrix.org>
16:13:03
AKA - anyone reading this should feel free to drop feedback in https://gitlab.com/fedora/bootc/tracker/-/issues/77 too!
<@dustymabe:matrix.org>
16:14:18
That's all I had for Open Floor. Mostly just trying to raise awareness of discussions happening elsewhere.
<@spresti:fedora.im>
16:14:56
Thank you for the links, excited to read through both. Always fun to learn more.
<@marmijo:fedora.im>
16:19:02
Thanks for the links dustymabe. Do you want to do an INFO for this section?
