The Meeting name is 'Fedora IoT Working Group Meeting'

hrm, looks like the bot is still on PTO
<@miabbott:fedora.im>

👋
<@pwhalen:fedora.im>
15:05:30
issue was on my end :)
<@pwhalen:fedora.im>
15:05:37
Good morning Micah Abbott
<@pwhalen:fedora.im>
15:06:15
Looks like just you and I, did you have anything you wanted to discuss?
<@miabbott:fedora.im>
15:07:52
I think for the purposes of open communication, a discussion of work/progress on removing `zezere` and/or evaluating `systemd-firstboot` would be good
<@miabbott:fedora.im>
15:08:35
<@miabbott:fedora.im>
15:08:55
<@pwhalen:fedora.im>
15:09:46
Sure- I plan on submitting a Fedora change to deprecate `zezere`, and looking at `systemd-firstboot` as a replacement. Hitting some issues while running it, but working through it
<@miabbott:fedora.im>
15:10:44
Cool! Usual reminder to keep us updated on any significant progress (or blockers) in the upstream issues 🙂
<@pwhalen:fedora.im>
15:11:17
right, will do.
<@miabbott:fedora.im>
15:12:41
I think the other item worth an update/discussion is the progress towards adoption of bootable containers. I know we have a tracker item, but we should probably start thinking about a timeline for GA of IoT via bootable containers and the deprecation of the ostree commits
<@miabbott:fedora.im>
15:13:24
<@pwhalen:fedora.im>
15:13:50
Agreed, I haven't looked at the other editions in a while, have they put forward a timeline for deprecating ostree commits? We should likely align if possibl e
<@miabbott:fedora.im>
15:14:42
I don't know of their timelines off hand. I've been more closely following Atomic Desktops...I don't forsee any deprecation of the ostree commits until F43+
<@miabbott:fedora.im>
15:15:10
<@miabbott:fedora.im>
15:15:52
CoreOS will probably be even later than F43+
<@miabbott:fedora.im>
15:15:54
<@pwhalen:fedora.im>
15:16:34
Ok, I'll add it to the agenda for next week, hopefully we have more folks around to discuss it
<@miabbott:fedora.im>
15:17:01
Let's focus on IoT in this discussion: do we have a sense of what we consider GA for bootable container support?
<@miabbott:fedora.im>
15:17:12
i.e. let's scope that work so we know what to aim for
<@pwhalen:fedora.im>
15:18:16
I think we need to be producing our expected deliverables, disk images and isos
<@miabbott:fedora.im>
15:19:08
do we expect users to be able to upgrade in place from their ostree commit to a container image? or do we say that they need to reprovision?
<@pwhalen:fedora.im>
15:19:11
which we've discussed- do we produce those, or provide documentation on producing htem
<@pwhalen:fedora.im>
15:19:25
which we've discussed- do we produce those, or provide documentation on producing them
<@pwhalen:fedora.im>
15:20:00
existing users could do either, upgrading works now
<@miabbott:fedora.im>
15:20:01
docs on producing the disk images/isos might be a good "tech preview" release
<@pwhalen:fedora.im>
15:20:34
Right, we have that elsewhere, but some docs in our getting started guide would be great
<@miabbott:fedora.im>
15:20:39
and if we get to the point where we can deliver those artifacts as part of a typical release, that would be GA?
<@pwhalen:fedora.im>
15:21:35
...and everything works as expected- I think so. Yourself?
<@miabbott:fedora.im>
15:21:48
seems like a reasonable goal 🙂
<@miabbott:fedora.im>
15:22:06
i'll take an action to update that tracker issue with these details
<@miabbott:fedora.im>
15:22:44
!action miabbott Update bootable container tracker issue with scope/goals for a GA release of bootable container support
<@pwhalen:fedora.im>
15:23:20
I do think we should revisit this discuss with more people in attendance too, so I'll add it to next week
<@pwhalen:fedora.im>
15:24:41
I think we should discuss this again next week with more people here, use your updates to drive the discussion
<@miabbott:fedora.im>
15:25:10
i would like that; nothing we decide is set in stone. we should always be adapting
<@pwhalen:fedora.im>
15:25:37
ok, noted.
<@pwhalen:fedora.im>
15:26:37
Anything else for today?
<@miabbott:fedora.im>
15:28:04
that is all that i had
<@pwhalen:fedora.im>
15:28:34
ok, thanks Micah Abbott
