<@rwright:fedora.im>

We should all wish Justin well since he's not feeling great. Hopefully no one else has caught anything!
<@rwright:fedora.im>
14:02:16

Hey Alberto! 👋
<@rwright:fedora.im>
14:06:33
Okie - while everyone says Hi and gets themself into the EtherPad (https://pad.sfconservancy.org/p/fedora-commops-meetings) I'll get the next topics setup for this week.
<@rwright:fedora.im>
14:07:23
As a note I mentioned in the #commops:fedoraproject.org room in Matrix, I am not sure if I caused Etherpad to loose it's mind, but today I've learned backups are important. So appologies but Edit history on the pad was wiped.
<@shaunm:matrix.org>
14:07:29
Robert Wright (he/him): Columbus OH?
<@rwright:fedora.im>
14:07:54
Yeah - I was boarding a Delta flight to MSP, and someone standing in front of me on the jet bridge haha.

14:09:19
Hopefully you get some sun wherever you are!
<@rwright:fedora.im>
14:10:04
!topic Team announcements & news
<@rwright:fedora.im>
14:10:39
OK - so as folks trickle in, keep saying hello - but I want to open it up to open floor for Fedora Announcements, CommOps Announcements, and any news in the community!
<@gwmngilfen:ansible.im>
14:11:05
i have one
<@gwmngilfen:ansible.im>
14:12:30
so, I was chatting about the dnf-countme data with mattdm at DevConf this week, and the general cruftiness of the `brontosaurusifier` scripts used to make the plots Matthew puts in his talks. Given that the majority of script is actually a loop over several chart types, I've set to on making an interactive version
<@gwmngilfen:ansible.im>
14:12:42
hang on, I have a gif 😛
<@rwright:fedora.im>
14:13:16
Oh that's very awesome!
<@gwmngilfen:ansible.im>
14:13:32
it's still based on the existing brontosaurus code, but we also have plans to try and improve the modelling that does for ephemeral data too
<@moralcode:fedora.im>
14:14:24
wonder of a stacked version of that graph could be cool for slowing like the total checkins across all versions
<@gwmngilfen:ansible.im>
14:14:37
now - and I apologise to Robert Wright (he/him) here - it is written in R & Shiny, at least for now. But I promised Justin W. Flory (he/him) that it wouldn't languish in some forgotten corner forever, so once it's halfway decent I wil *at least* move it to the commops repos, and ideally redo it in python at some point. I'm just more comfortable in R 😉
<@rwright:fedora.im>
14:14:53
R... you gonna write it in Python
<@gwmngilfen:ansible.im>
14:14:54
Adrian Edwards: there are stacked ones too, I just haven't ported that part of the code yet
<@rwright:fedora.im>
14:15:04
get it - like "are"... haha
<@rwright:fedora.im>
14:15:18
It's still cool - no matter the language
<@gwmngilfen:ansible.im>
14:15:38
I *had* planned to do the juptyter setup you built by today too Robert Wright (he/him), but ENOTIME
<@nhanlon:beeper.com>
14:15:59
I've got like 100+TB of logs I need to run countme against at some point for Rocky Linux.. so... count me as intrigued :)
<@gwmngilfen:ansible.im>
14:16:21
the existing code does some lines, some stacks, some areas, 4 different axes, and a bunch of filters, so it'll take me a short while to get it all working 🙂
<@gwmngilfen:ansible.im>
14:16:48
https://pagure.io/brontosaurusifier if you want to see the original output
<@rwright:fedora.im>
14:16:48
Well - when your ready, let me know and we can get you up into GitLab if you're not there alreaddy!
<@gwmngilfen:ansible.im>
14:17:07
i have an account, not sure if I have anything but read perms right now. we'll sort it, for sure
<@gwmngilfen:ansible.im>
14:17:34
i'll also happily host an instance of Shiny in the short term - again, I don't want to go around the infra team, this is just while we explore options
<@gwmngilfen:ansible.im>
14:17:46
sounds fun 😉
<@rwright:fedora.im>
14:18:14
!action Robert to make sure Gwmngilfen has edit to the GitLab repos and figure out why or why not community can contribute
<@gwmngilfen:ansible.im>
14:18:19
I did also tell Justin I would download your parquet data and start playing with it too
<@nhanlon:beeper.com>
14:18:29
use structured logs, they said... it'll be fun, they said...
<@gwmngilfen:ansible.im>
14:18:46
so long as it's long-format, I don't care 😉
<@gwmngilfen:ansible.im>
14:18:59
feel free to action me on that, I did promise 😛
<@gwmngilfen:ansible.im>
14:19:21
ok, i'm done with that udpdate, unless anyone has questions? I will aim to have a live instance for our next meeting
<@rwright:fedora.im>
14:19:58
Awesome - thanks Greg!
<@rwright:fedora.im>
14:20:03
Any other team or Community news/
<@rwright:fedora.im>
14:21:13
I'll make one quick news reminder for folks
<@rwright:fedora.im>
14:21:22
Flock to Fedora is coming up in August (that's 30 days away!)
<@rwright:fedora.im>
14:21:24
https://flocktofedora.org/
<@rwright:fedora.im>
14:21:26
<@rwright:fedora.im>
14:22:03
There's actually a lot of event feedback in our Issue Tracker - I'll talk about htat in Open Tickets in a moment, but just as a reminder for folks if you're planning to travel to attend to look at flights.
<@rwright:fedora.im>
14:22:21
I need to do that - I got my company to sponsor it but I forgot to actually book the time off. haha
<@nhanlon:beeper.com>
14:23:01
ostensibly, this _is_ my job, so.. i hope i won't have any pushback :P
<@nhanlon:beeper.com>
14:23:39
hotels, too... avg price is increasing steadily
<@rwright:fedora.im>
14:24:08
Ok - going one, twice on news from folks...
<@rwright:fedora.im>
14:24:23
!topic Initiative Co-Lead updates to the team
<@rwright:fedora.im>
14:25:07
I'll be Justin and myself today
<@rwright:fedora.im>
14:25:37
Justin is out sick - but he's heads down on Flock and a few other activities at the moment. So if you need him, just give him a ping and he'll get back to you all soon.
<@rwright:fedora.im>
14:25:53
From me - As a reminder - Thursday at 11AM to 12PM PST - is our first CommOps Hack Hour.
<@rwright:fedora.im>
14:26:17
We'll be around doing work on tickets, looking at problems, etc. I am planning on making a sizable dent into issues myself on Thursday
<@rwright:fedora.im>
14:26:26
If you want the invite or don't have it already - ping me and I'll forward it over!
<@rwright:fedora.im>
14:26:39
(or ping in #commops:fedoraproject.org )
<@rwright:fedora.im>
14:26:56
I realize this is gonna be a meeting room - I will handle the requests in the main room haha. :)
<@rwright:fedora.im>
14:27:29
And with that...
<@rwright:fedora.im>
14:27:32
!topic Follow-ups from last meeting
<@rwright:fedora.im>
14:27:44
Does anyone have any follow ups, questions, or take aways from the last meeting.
<@rwright:fedora.im>
14:27:57
I believe it was a AV meeting but I wasn't able to attend.
<@rwright:fedora.im>
14:28:13
(Work... :) )
<@gwmngilfen:ansible.im>
14:28:30
hmm the hack hour is 19:00 BST, I might not make that, family time
<@gwmngilfen:ansible.im>
14:28:56
I would like to come though, if only to force me to play with the parquet data 🙂
<@rwright:fedora.im>
14:29:21
Haha - that's OK - we will have more. We just picked a time that both Justin and I could do for the first one so we could make it happen!
<@rwright:fedora.im>
14:29:37
!action Robert to make sure FedoCal has the invite and to send out Invite info to main room once he finds the GMeet info
<@rwright:fedora.im>
14:30:46
Any other follow ups for items from teh last meeting anyone want to check in with?
<@moralcode:fedora.im>
14:31:28
i havent seen anything on the data dictionary item
<@moralcode:fedora.im>
14:31:55
i think i put some notes there to help kick start it but not sure if ill get a chance to make it a proper writeup
<@rwright:fedora.im>
14:32:02
It's been quiet on that one - that's my Thursday pick up one if no one else takes it just to get it knocked out.
<@gwmngilfen:ansible.im>
14:32:50
i said I might but tbh anytime I say i'll do writing you should be sceptical 😛
<@nhanlon:beeper.com>
14:33:05
one from me: i'm not sure if Brian and Justin ended up connecting about OSPN Kyoto, but I will f/u with Brian about that
<@gwmngilfen:ansible.im>
14:33:08
i've procrastnated writing a mere two paragraphs on something for 3 days now
<@nhanlon:beeper.com>
14:33:26
I'll give you a cookie if you write it!
<@moralcode:fedora.im>
14:33:50
oh also i have a couple scripts awaiting merge into commops/home
<@moralcode:fedora.im>
14:34:09
mostly for the video editing pipeline - not sure if i have access to directly edit that repo but thats kinda where ive been putting things
<@rwright:fedora.im>
14:34:13
!action Robert to help Adrian merge into CommOps/Home with approvals
<@rwright:fedora.im>
14:34:17
I will give you a review! :D
<@rwright:fedora.im>
14:34:43
Just to help ya out - Justin can when he gets back too.
<@moralcode:fedora.im>
14:35:24
yep! ive just been processing the FWD videos and trying to get the scripts documented and put in places where others can use them and give feedback so theyre less likely to bit rot after my internship ends
<@moralcode:fedora.im>
14:35:38
i *think* thats all the things i can remember - am a bit scatterbrained this week
<@rwright:fedora.im>
14:36:05
OK - then going once on last meeting....
<@rwright:fedora.im>
14:36:08
Twice...
<@rwright:fedora.im>
14:36:13
!topic Ticket Review
<@rwright:fedora.im>
14:36:34
As a reminder, you can set tickets for review during this meeting by adding the label to GitLab.
<@rwright:fedora.im>
14:36:36
<@rwright:fedora.im>
14:37:02
In our Gitlab - we have so many issues for folks that you can take. If you're feeling up to taking one, please take a look and ask or assign your self. There's a lot of tickets for folks that can be worked on.
<@rwright:fedora.im>
14:37:28
Don't feel like a cookie licker (am i saying that right)...
<@rwright:fedora.im>
14:37:41
We want folks to pick up tickets where they can (and if you can't - that's OK too!)

!info #28 — 2024 Initiative Output - Community Social Analytics: Dashboard Solution
<@moralcode:fedora.im>
14:37:57
that talk from FOSSY was awesome haha
<@rwright:fedora.im>
14:38:23
The only ticke tstill on our meeting review is the ticket I am planning on primarily addressing (that and Data Dictionary) on our hack hour.
<@rwright:fedora.im>
14:38:41
If anyone wants to attend and help support that ticket - we'll be talking about it in real time on Thursday (11AM PST).
<@rwright:fedora.im>
14:39:04
I'll probably try to drag in some PST Fedora Infra friends to have them take a look too if they can to help us chug along faster on that.
<@rwright:fedora.im>
14:39:16
Real time is best time and friends makes the procrastination go away. :D
<@rwright:fedora.im>
14:39:57
I know Neil Hanlon has already made a great leap forward on it - so we just need to get it over the finish line.
<@rwright:fedora.im>
14:40:06
As I tell Justin - this is a major blocker to unblock a lot of other things.
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
14:40:28
Hi folks, sorry, I spaced here a bit 🫣
<@rwright:fedora.im>
14:40:33
I spoke his name...
<@nhanlon:beeper.com>
14:40:52
i keep hoping to have time to look at that more and then... well.. i don't want to overpromise. lol
<@rwright:fedora.im>
14:41:21
While folks are looking at this ticket - are there any other tickets anyone has questions about or would liek help with?
<@bt0dotninja:fedora.im>
14:41:40
get well soon Justin
<@moralcode:fedora.im>
14:42:14
not currently (i think i talked about mine earlier haha) - am planning to probably do my own little documentation hack week soon to just get all my stuff documented on docs.fp.o and make all the fixes ive identified so far

<@moralcode:fedora.im>
14:43:06
so yeah if theres any docs related stuff in commops issues, ping me on those i guess
<@zodbot:fedora.im>
14:43:14
bt0dotninja gave a cookie to moralcode. They now have 9 cookies, 9 of which were obtained in the Fedora 40 release cycle
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
14:43:23
I am trying to remember the trick at sharing a Google Calendar invite with a public link.

14:44:17
I'll add a FedoCal meeting and just add the meeting join link to it
<@gwmngilfen:ansible.im>
14:44:17
Robert Wright (he/him): is there a ticket for testing the parquet data? or shall we just dig into it from the repo?
<@nhanlon:beeper.com>
14:44:20
negative
<@rwright:fedora.im>
14:44:38
Oops - no. Need to probably add one

<@gwmngilfen:ansible.im>
14:45:09
https://gitlab.com/fedora/commops/home/-/issues/26 might be a vali link there too

<@rwright:fedora.im>
14:46:03
OK - any other tickets from anyone to check in on?
<@gwmngilfen:ansible.im>
14:47:07
not without overpromising things again 😉
<@rwright:fedora.im>
14:47:18

<@jflory7:fedora.im>

It's OK - teamwork makes hte dream work
<@jflory7:fedora.im>

<@jflory7:fedora.im>
14:53:06
<@jflory7:fedora.im>
14:53:37
I don't know if I will be able to make it this Thursday due to a few different reasons, but I hope to chair some hack hours during July.
<@rwright:fedora.im>
14:53:50
That's all good - it's informal anyways. :)
<@rwright:fedora.im>
