i know troy won't be here (hence me running the meeting) but there should be a few more that can make it
<@rcallicotte:fedora.im>
18:02:25
Is everybody at devconf?
<@carlwgeorge:fedora.im>
18:03:34
among esc members, should just be davide and neal
<@carlwgeorge:fedora.im>
18:04:03
we'll give it a few more minutes before kicking things off, but likely to be a short meeting either way
<@carlwgeorge:fedora.im>
18:06:50
i expect kevin and jonathan will be able to make it, but they're probably just putting out fires somewhere and will join in a bit

**epel #333** (https://pagure.io/epel/issue/333):**Do not encourage packagers to request EPEL packages on behalf of the Python Packagers SIG**
<@rcallicotte:fedora.im>
18:08:12
Catching up...
<@carlwgeorge:fedora.im>
18:09:09
basically it continues to be a problem that people request epel branches via sig permissions and then later don't respond to bugs for the packages they built and published
<@carlwgeorge:fedora.im>
18:09:20
so the epel-packagers-sig problem, but for other sigs as well
<@rcallicotte:fedora.im>
18:09:25
ah
<@rcallicotte:fedora.im>
18:10:04
but then shouldn't that be documented via other sig?
<@carlwgeorge:fedora.im>
18:10:17
right, that's where the comments ended up essentially
<@rcallicotte:fedora.im>
18:10:21
each sig maintain their own policy etc
<@carlwgeorge:fedora.im>
18:11:22
i doubt any sigs actually have this documented, but i think it makes sense to just drop the sig section and encourage (not require) packagers to be direct maintainers (or collaborators) of packages
<@rcallicotte:fedora.im>
18:12:07
that sounds reasonable to me
<@nhanlon:beeper.com>
18:12:28
yeah that sounds reasonable
<@carlwgeorge:fedora.im>
18:12:50
i'm reading it as "leave it up to sigs to communicate among themselves if they allow that or not"
<@carlwgeorge:fedora.im>
18:13:25
i can throw up a pr for that, and hopefully michel can ack it async while at devconf
<@carlwgeorge:fedora.im>
18:13:48

some progress on this one, my pungi pr was merged, so i expect composes going forward will include the new subpackages, and it will probably be on the mirrors by next tuesday

<@carlwgeorge:fedora.im>
18:18:03
once it's live we can actually verify things work, and close the issue out. eventually we'll want to fixup epel-release to use the actual package names instead of the provides of the old names, but that's minor cleanup work.
<@carlwgeorge:fedora.im>
18:19:05
worth noting that as far as i can tell the new selinux-policy subpackages are 10.1 only, so i expect there will be a few bug reports for things not working in 10.0. nothing we can do there, as we can't force the rhel maintainer to backport the change to 10.0.
<@carlwgeorge:fedora.im>
18:21:12
if you see bug reports for your epel packages, best you can do is ask the submitter to file a support case with red hat, maybe if it's disruptive enough there will be enough cases to justify the work
<@rcallicotte:fedora.im>
18:21:51
Thats possible.
<@rcallicotte:fedora.im>
18:22:36
worst case would be users rolling their own fix in copr maybe?
<@carlwgeorge:fedora.im>
18:23:36
honestly my workaround would be manually downloading the new subpackages out of centos repos and install them one-off, then distro-sync after rhel 10.1 comes out
<@carlwgeorge:fedora.im>
18:24:00
iirc they're noarch and should be fairly independent and work, but i haven't tested this
<@rcallicotte:fedora.im>
18:24:00
oh thats much simpler lol

<@dherrera:fedora.im>
18:28:09
I have a small thing too (hi btw :D)
<@carlwgeorge:fedora.im>
18:28:15
the fedocal entry for this meeting still indicates that it takes place in #meeting:fedoraproject.org, because we never updated it after we switched to #meeting-1:fedoraproject.org (here)

<@nirik:matrix.scrye.com>
18:30:40
and smooge is listed as the contact. ;)
<@nirik:matrix.scrye.com>
18:30:58
do we have a group we could add there?
<@carlwgeorge:fedora.im>
18:31:09
i don't believe we have an esc group
<@carlwgeorge:fedora.im>
18:31:31
i'm looking here https://calendar.fedoraproject.org/epel/#m10978 and i see "Meeting organized by kevin, tdawson." no smooge
<@rcallicotte:fedora.im>
18:32:05
that would be ideal if we had a group. how would we go about arranging that?
<@nirik:matrix.scrye.com>
18:32:13
I'm editing in the admin interface and I see:
<@carlwgeorge:fedora.im>
18:32:34

oh you are just talking about the meeting...
<@nirik:matrix.scrye.com>
18:32:54
right, I can add people there
<@carlwgeorge:fedora.im>
18:33:17
for now just stick me on the meeting, then we can work on a proper esc group later
<@nirik:matrix.scrye.com>

18:36:21
I just wanted to mention that I updated it so that now it shows EPEL10 and EPEL10z repos
<@dherrera:fedora.im>
18:36:21
The EPEL10 one tracks the current minor that corresponds to Centos Stream, while the EPEL10z one tracks the minor that corresponds to the latest RHEL release minor :)
<@dherrera:fedora.im>
18:36:40
that would be it from me ^^
<@rcallicotte:fedora.im>
18:36:51
that looks cool
<@carlwgeorge:fedora.im>

<@carlwgeorge:fedora.im>
18:39:02
oh, one more small fyi from me, fasjson-client is now in epel10. i know a few folks were waiting on that one.
