I would just like to cover a couple of things from FOSDEM and Configuration management camp and get a status on reports 19:03:54 hi 19:04:06 hello 19:04:20 ok we have a 3/5 quorum at the moment so the meeting is good :) 19:04:39 #topic Things that have been done: 19:04:52 nirik, you mentioned you had done some work on... 19:05:29 I poked some at making a python35 package... but didn't get that far yet. 19:05:44 anything we can help with? 19:06:11 more tuits? 19:07:31 I am looking at a python27 package that I want to try and get done in a month or so for RHEL5/6. 19:07:52 that seems like a lot of pain, but then what isn't I guess. ;) 19:09:36 pretty much 19:09:52 well I will try it and probably just do a software collection 19:10:11 anyway.. avij bstinson anything you wanted to bring up? 19:10:48 I don't think I have anything worth mentioning 19:10:51 none here 19:10:53 #topic FOSDEM preliminary recap. 19:11:16 OK this is a preliminary recap of various discussions that were held at FOSDEM. 19:11:31 I have a bunch of notes I need to transcribe to something better but couldn't get to it on the plane 19:11:59 At FOSDEM 2016, we had 1 formal meeting on the last day of the conference and multiple informal ones. 19:12:15 Unofficial meetings discussed the following: 19:12:47 * Possible ways to get EPEL built for alternative architectures that didn't potentially break main EPEL 19:13:57 * Do we need to look at rechartering EPEL with FESCO in order to have a clearer mandate of what we do versus what we think have promised to do from years in the past 19:15:27 * How to better articulate package requirements for EPEL-5/EPEL-6/EPEL-7 now that Fedora is very different 19:16:09 .. those are the ones I have on the sheets of paper I found so far. bstinson avij were there any other informal items you remember? 19:16:37 smooge: that's a good summary of the conversations i was in :) 19:17:40 I mentioned my EPEL relation to a few people during fosdem and CentOS dojo, but did not get any particular feedback 19:18:24 ok thanks 19:18:33 #topic FOSDEM meeting recap 19:18:33 most probably I simply didn't chat with the right people 19:19:06 avij, its ok.. most everyone I chatted with about things kept saying "Hey I can't talk right now... can we meet next week?" 19:19:12 (next time I'll be wiser and know how things work) 19:19:15 which I said "non" 19:19:44 well I actually said "email me because I won't be in Europe next week" 19:19:49 avij, me too 19:21:01 OK so various people wanted to know what my positition with EPEL was.. I got introduced as the Benevolent Dictator for Life by 1 or 2 people but I tried to clarify that was just something people joked about versus what I was 19:21:23 unless you guys did actually mean it .. then I need new business cards 19:21:49 On Sunday we had a 30 minute round-table discussion on EPEL and how it is going. 19:21:56 This didn't go too well for a couple of reasons: 19:22:19 * I thought it was an hour and overran my time on giving a state of the union message for people. 19:23:00 smooge: that was one of the best parts, having those numbers was fantastic 19:23:12 30min is pretty short. ;( 19:23:17 * The two release managers (Peter R and Dennis G) who were needed for various questions could not attend because they had travelled already 19:23:31 * 30-45 minutes was way too short. 19:24:18 What I did get out of the meeting is that we have some very very large deployments of EPEL and people are concerned about how EPEL is going these days 19:24:26 * What is the release process? 19:24:39 * What are the ways to get packages into EPEL? 19:24:48 * Can we get SCL's into EPEL without Fedora? 19:25:35 * How can we move packages up to new supported versions without "send an email and push it" 19:26:31 * What about i386 and arm32 19:27:57 * X is broken because Y was removed and no one is seeing it til too late 19:28:44 * nirik has opinions on many of these, but we can wait for next week to discuss? 19:29:11 oh yes 19:29:23 this is just a dump for getting these registered 19:29:42 I want to finish writing up a blog and going over various proposals people gave me.. 19:29:53 or for that matter, on list. ;) 19:29:57 yeah 19:30:10 and then start discussing it on the list. 19:31:36 One thing that I found was a lot of complaints were from people who hated how things were set up, but didn't want it to change because they were afraid it was going to break someone else 19:32:21 So what I found useful was to ask them to come back with "If we had to start over, knowing what we know now, what would we do?" as a thought experiment 19:32:47 that got a couple of various roadblocks cleared up in people I talked with to say "Oh well I think that ...." 19:33:03 versus "No we can't change this thing I hate becaue its what we promised back in 2007" 19:33:33 so I would like to end the meeting with that... 19:33:53 each of the people present, to think about the following things and bring it to the list/meeting: 19:34:19 1) Why do we have something like EPEL? [What does EPEL solve for you. What does EPEL solve for people you know] 19:35:10 2) If you had to start this over.. with what you know now, How would you invent EPEL? 19:35:21 thanks 19:35:31 ... end of dump ... 19:36:00 #topic open floor 19:36:12 ok just a general open floor and then close in 2 minutes? 19:36:35 smooge: great work wrangling all of this and dealing with the challenges on devroom-day 19:36:55 yeah, good job 19:37:41 yeah, thanks for gathering all this up 19:38:32 no problem. I enjoyed myself a lot. I would like to do this with a longer time and better aim at FLOCK Krackow 19:38:42 ok with nothing else 19:38:45 #endmeeting
