It broke the world 18:02:39 #info EPEL-8.0 was released. It hasn't broken the world yet 18:02:52 #info Open Floor 18:03:04 #topic RHEL-7.7 was released. 18:03:54 OK right before everyone went on travel, RHEL-7.7 came out and it broke various build items due to the changes in python3 and some other items. 18:04:42 I want to thank mhroncok a great deal for trying to fix them as quickly as possible while possibly on travel. I also want to thank everyone else who helped debug and come up with where things needed patching to make it work better 18:05:23 I believe nirik put in this morning the last 'fix' to allow for some python dep problems 18:05:43 Does anyone know of any other issues? 18:06:08 just how do we continue once centos is out 18:07:02 I think once centos is out, then the removal of python36 can be completed 18:07:31 and with the new macros, it won't affect the python3/python36 naming? 18:07:32 at this point on a rhel box, all the packages in epel-7 do not seem to break a working system. 18:08:07 that it might.. I expect we will need to work out a long term plan on that. I believe mhroncok had one and bleve had another 18:08:13 or they might be the same one 18:08:38 ok, or a dummy python36 18:09:26 so python3 replaces python36 and seems to work on pulling in most items. The build items were fixed with updates to epel-rpm-macros I believe 18:09:56 but I really haven't spent enough time looking at it to say exactly what would be needed 18:10:03 I am hoping to do so next week 18:11:37 I'll just note that a number of qt5 packages will need to get rebuilt for qt5 5.9.7 in RHEL 7.7. 18:11:51 Also, I just saw this in an epel7 root.log: 18:11:58 DEBUG util.py:585: BUILDSTDERR: Problem: package python3-devel-3.6.8-10.el7.x86_64 requires python3-rpm-generators, but none of the providers can be installed 18:12:00 DEBUG util.py:585: BUILDSTDERR: - cannot install the best candidate for the job 18:12:01 DEBUG util.py:585: BUILDSTDERR: - nothing provides python3-setuptools needed by python3-rpm-generators-6-2.el7.noarch 18:12:28 but the build succeeded 18:12:53 orionp, thanks I was not aware of that until now 18:13:00 (the qt thing) 18:13:58 orionp, ok hopefully someone can look at the other problem after the meeting. I am going to be on PTO in 45 minutes til Fireday 18:15:25 ok other issues. 18:15:49 #info RHEL-7.7 does not have aarch64 or ppc64le-9 support 18:16:30 smooge, pgreco: the entire thing was designed to work. and it would have, except the retirement broke centos 18:16:39 we need to do decide on what we need to do about the aarch64. The ppc64le-9 is less of a concern because ppc64le-8 support is still there and works on 9 18:16:40 so after centos 7.7 is out, we just retire the packages again 18:17:02 mhroncok, yeah. it was.. you did great. I just didn't think about when to do it 18:17:18 mhroncok: thanks! 18:17:43 mhroncok, I should have and said 'we will wait til C7.7 is out on the retirement' and investigated the supposed build breakages closer before saying 'sure' when you asked 18:18:11 np. it was a 1 weekend breakage anyway :)) 18:20:05 mhroncok++ again for fixing it on a weekend 18:20:05 smooge: Karma for churchyard changed to 14 (for the current release cycle): https://badges.fedoraproject.org/tags/cookie/any 18:20:30 I guess we'll start to find out how many aarch64 RHEL7 EPEL users there are out there.. 18:20:58 I am not sure what the 'python3-devel-3.6.8-10.el7.x86_64 requires python3-rpm-generators, but none of the providers can be installed' means but maybe mhroncok can help after meeting 18:21:34 I sent out an email on the various EL-7.7 items. Hopefully we can get this more lined up before 7.8 or 8.2 comes out 18:21:47 #topic EPEL-8 released 18:22:09 OK I buried the lede on this, but I really want to thank EVERYONE over the last 6-9 months who have helped make this happen 18:22:44 +1000 nice work on this 18:23:01 congrats to all 18:23:36 (smooge: ping me later about the python3-rpm-generators thing please) 18:23:42 yeap, seriously, amazing work 18:23:50 mhroncok, will do so 18:23:52 thanks 18:24:13 so we have a bunch of open items on it but I think we did pretty well. 18:24:21 I have tested it with RHEL-8 and some other distro 18:25:00 the big thing I could ask for people is to help test all the packages which are in testing 18:26:59 * orionp hopes that CentOS 8 isn't too far away... 18:30:11 like Paul Masson wine.. CentOS 8 will not be served before its time 18:30:23 ok anything else on this? 18:30:36 #topic Open Floor 18:30:50 OK anyone with items for the floor? or the ceiling? 18:33:18 ok thank you all for coming this week 18:33:33 thanks smooge! 18:33:41 I hope to have announcements and people who will discuss the EPEL-8.1 modularity plans next week 18:33:45 #endmeeting
