Information about MeetBot at http://wiki.debian.org/MeetBot. 22:00:09 Useful Commands: #action #agreed #halp #info #idea #link #topic. 22:00:09 The meeting name has been set to 'epel_(2021-01-22)' 22:00:11 #meetingname epel 22:00:11 The meeting name has been set to 'epel' 22:00:12 #chair nirik tdawson bstinson pgreco carlwgeorge michel_slm 22:00:12 Current chairs: bstinson carlwgeorge michel_slm nirik pgreco tdawson 22:00:14 #topic aloha 22:00:22 hi! 22:00:28 here 22:00:48 Hi pgreco 22:00:51 Hi smooge 22:02:48 hmm ... a little quite today thus far 22:03:02 Although it's always a good day when smooge is here 22:03:31 nirik is on zombie avoidance duty to get food for famil 22:03:42 tdawson: , are you saying that that smooge drove everybody away? :P 22:04:00 looking at the effect of some of my emails today... I expect that is true 22:04:33 I don't remember if michel_slm said they could not make today or if that was a different meeting 22:04:51 I didn't have anyone say they couldn't make it. 22:04:56 hi! I couldn't make last week, but... cannot make this week either 22:05:02 attending linux.conf.au which just started 22:05:16 michel_slm: Ahh ... ok. Have fun there. 22:05:41 Maybe that's where the others are as well. 22:06:39 Not that we can't have a meeting with just the three of us, but two main topics were carlwgeorge's 22:06:54 yeah, let's give the others a few mins 22:07:24 smooge: Was there anything in particular you wanted to talk about? Or you just happened to have some time? 22:07:26 I have something that I wanted to bring up, more a comment than a topic 22:07:38 pgreco: Go for it. 22:07:52 I had some time and thought my cheery personality would make things bright and shiney here 22:07:59 :) 22:08:07 which is that I'm really looking forward to the outcome of the thread on -devel packages on centos-devel 22:08:18 me too 22:08:47 hopefully the whole system that tdawson had to design will become useless 22:08:54 The one titled "May we get all subpackages in C8S repos" ? 22:09:08 yeah 22:09:21 no that is the system that is going to be institutionalized to make it happen :) 22:10:06 I am glad that the conversation is happening 22:10:31 yeah, it was in fact one of the main topics in my mail to centos-questions 22:10:42 tried really hard not make it a rant 22:13:06 I ran into the problem on a internal meeting I was sitting in on. They were trying to use CentOS Stream for some things and were missing a key -devel package. I was like "oohh ... they me get this to Josh so we can show it's also hurting us as well." 22:14:12 yeah, the fact that you had to come up with such a crazy scheme for an arbitrary decision is @##$%#$% 22:16:34 Huh ... carlwgeorge isn't usually this late. 22:16:57 yeap, all or nothing, so I'm guessing today is nothing 22:17:18 The whole pythonX naming discussion is actually going fairly well via email ... so I guess we don't really have to discuss it much here. 22:18:02 And I'm pretty sure most of the people needed for epel8-next are ramping up for the mass rebuild. 22:18:30 last mass rebuild before branching, right? 22:18:37 both f34 and el9 22:19:24 Well, we're going to wait until the F34 mass rebuild is done, or at least the side tag stuff is done, then we'll start the ELN/RHEL9 mass rebuild. 22:19:28 * carlwgeorge waves from my phone 22:19:42 Hi carlwgeorge 22:20:12 quick summary on my stuff, as noted good discussion on the python stuff 22:21:01 epel next is waiting in me to pull request a branch check to fedscm-admin, and some stuff to fedpkg 22:22:44 carlwgeorge: Need any help from us? Or are all the appropriate people already helping? 22:22:44 cool 22:23:38 the latter, nirik and mboddu have been great and just waiting on me to make time between other work 22:24:01 Sounds good. 22:24:07 oh I had one last thing for the meeting. Looking at the epel system stats, EPEL6 is still going strong, EPEL7 and EPEL8 are still growing . 22:24:38 Cool 22:24:44 * smooge is glad that el6 stopped growing after the EOL date 22:25:00 how strong is strong for el6? 22:25:12 * mboddu is always happy to help 22:25:27 I can neither confirm nor deny having an el5 box still stashed somewhere.... 22:27:01 smooge: I don't suppose you have a nice graph do you? Or is that matt that makes those. 22:27:02 770k systems for EL6, 22:27:23 1.8 million for EL7 and ~400k for EL8 22:27:43 ugly images are here https://data-analysis.fedoraproject.org/csv-reports/images/ 22:28:03 ugly data is https://data-analysis.fedoraproject.org/csv-reports/mirrors/ 22:28:35 I need to reprocess the data for Jan 1 and work out how to do 7 day averages again 22:29:38 pgreco, 30k el5 boxes 22:30:15 Ya. Looks like EL5 is staying fairly stable. Nobody is going to pry those boxes out of wherever they are. 22:30:20 that's still a lot 22:30:37 the 200 el4 boxes is what gets me 22:30:45 my guess is that 50% of those boxes are asterisk servers 22:30:52 we didn't even have a lot of packages in el4 22:31:05 yeah, I was surprised to see el4 make the list 22:31:06 oh and there was a complaint in IRC today about the EPEL wiki pages 22:31:20 I saw that! 22:31:40 I correct the issues that I could and added a note that el5 requires a newer TLS 22:33:06 I was a little amused that not only were they running something that old, but seemed rather surprised that things didn't work just right. 22:33:53 however if they had been running it and just found out that it wasn't working .. they had been running that system for 4 years 22:34:47 the drop in mid 2017 for EL5 was when we switched to a newer TLS on the fedora proxies and download servers 22:34:48 All those servers in businesses back closets, or under desks in an old office turned storage room. 22:35:29 I expect that the real number of EL5 systems out there is that before graph line with lots of boxes just quietly complaining they can't get their updates from EPEL or CentOS 22:36:00 That is both cool, and scary at the same time. 22:36:34 hehe, yeah 22:37:09 Anyone have anything else to bring up? 22:37:33 not from me 22:38:37 OK, then I'm going to call it a meeting so we can get on with the weekend ... or back to work, whichever is best for you. 22:38:56 Thanks for being here, and we'll talk to you next week. 22:39:05 #endmeeting
