18:07:05
Although we were in agreement that they can get an override for "The leading branch" ... there was disagreement on 10.x and/or epel9-next.
<@tdawson:fedora.im>
18:07:40
On the ticket, I asked if what we agreed on was good enough, but they didn't give an answer.
<@tdawson:fedora.im>
18:08:10
Are we ok closing the ticket, and if they want to do the updates on the non-leading branches, have them open new tickets?
<@carlwgeorge:fedora.im>
18:08:28
that seems reasonable, keep them as separate tickets/decisions
<@tdawson:fedora.im>
18:09:14
OK. Then I'll do write that, and close the ticket.
<@tdawson:fedora.im>

18:10:08
I wanted to bring up the restructuring and cleanup pull request
<@tdawson:fedora.im>
18:10:15
<@tdawson:fedora.im>
18:11:00
Last week we said we'd give them a week to make the changes Carl wanted ... I don't see the changes.
<@tdawson:fedora.im>
18:11:17
Are we ok merging this, and then doing those changes as smaller pull requests?
<@nhanlon:beeper.com>
18:11:54
Ok by me
<@dherrera:fedora.im>
18:12:15
I'd preffer for it to be merged and for revisions to be made on new prs tbh just for progress sake
<@dherrera:fedora.im>
18:12:36
I wouldn't mind helping getting the current PRs rebased to this
<@carlwgeorge:fedora.im>
18:13:29
that amounts to doing a partial revert as one of the requests was to remove some of the changes. not the end of the world but much cleaner to just remove that part of the pr change.
<@carlwgeorge:fedora.im>
18:14:00
if everyone else wants to just merge it and make the fixes separately, i won't block it
<@nirik:matrix.scrye.com>
18:14:11
could try pinging Petr Bokoc directly? oh wait, I just did. ;)
<@carlwgeorge:fedora.im>
18:14:22
that works too
<@nirik:matrix.scrye.com>
18:14:58
I don't think we need to be in a super hurry, but we shouldn't let it languish either and get forgotten
<@tdawson:fedora.im>
18:15:49
I worry about the words of smooge coming back to bite us ... plus we also have other pull requests that haven't been started because we are waiting on this.
<@pbokoc:fedora.im>
18:15:57
Oh yeah, I wanted to get to that. I can just make the changes Carl suggested a bit later today and then we can merge it if noone has anything else
<@carlwgeorge:fedora.im>
18:16:12
perfect, thanks petr!
<@tdawson:fedora.im>
18:16:27
That sounds great to me. Thank you Petr Bokoc
<@pbokoc:fedora.im>
18:16:35
I'll post to the EPEL channel when I'm done
<@zodbot:fedora.im>
18:16:40
kevin gave a cookie to pbokoc. They now have 63 cookies, 3 of which were obtained in the Fedora 41 release cycle
<@tdawson:fedora.im>
18:17:37
Cool ... is that good enough for everyone? Or does anyone have any other comments before we move on?
<@davide:cavalca.name>
18:17:46
works for me
<@tdawson:fedora.im>
18:18:33

<@tdawson:fedora.im>

<@carlwgeorge:fedora.im>
18:21:23
i brought up a thing during the office hours, but i have zero energy or time to retype it all during this meeting. i'll write it up as a proper issue to give an overview for everyone that wasn't in the office hours call.
<@nirik:matrix.scrye.com>

https://github.com/AlmaLinux/ALESCo/pull/2
<@jonathanspw:fedora.im>
18:21:59
Just an update on the AlmaLinux EPEL rebuild for x86_64_v2, it was tentatively approved in this morning's ALESCo meeting with all of Carl George 's concerns addressed to the best of our ability including a separate dist-tag and epel-release package name.
<@jonathanspw:fedora.im>
18:21:59
<@nirik:matrix.scrye.com>
18:22:21
I'll note there's some confusion about epel10 minor's on the list... perhaps we could try and find a way to better explain in docs or something.
<@carlwgeorge:fedora.im>
18:23:12
this is the same thing i think
<@nirik:matrix.scrye.com>
18:24:00
Jonathan Wright: looks good to me. Thank you for taking concerns and adjusting.
<@tdawson:fedora.im>
18:24:27
Carl, if you don't mind me summarizing at least the problem.
<@carlwgeorge:fedora.im>
18:26:05
an oversight of our current epel10 plan is that it can break automatic updates, and with manual updates it would require doing two dnf updates instead of one. i've been brainstorming how to solve this and think i have a revised plan of how it could work, but it needs more investigation.
<@tdawson:fedora.im>
18:27:14
The problem is going to happen when someone running RHEL 10 (and possibly Alma, Rocky, etc..) and they try to update from 10.0 to 10.1. The dnf variables aren't going to update until redhat-release gets updated, thus they won't be pointing to the right epel repository. So at the very best, it would take two dnf updates. But more likely, they will get stuck in an update loop because they can't update to RHEL 10.1 because something in epel10.0 want's the old - whatever.
<@carlwgeorge:fedora.im>
18:28:56
yup, all of that. i definitely want to do a more complete write up about all this. the brainstorming in the office hours helped, so thank y'all that were able to attend.
<@nirik:matrix.scrye.com>
18:29:35
hum, yeah. Well, luckily we have some time to work out something. ;)
<@carlwgeorge:fedora.im>
18:29:38
how exactly we fix it also depends on the exception decision to get releasever_minor set correctly, which we should get an answer on this week
<@tdawson:fedora.im>
18:29:56
Carl George: I like your plan, although it does have drawbacks ... but I agree in that summarizing it in a text-based meeting, it hard if not impossible.
<@tdawson:fedora.im>

<@carlwgeorge:fedora.im>
18:30:35
yeah that's all i meant about not having the time or energy, hopefully that didn't come off curt
<@tdawson:fedora.im>
18:30:53
Nope, I totally understand.
<@tdawson:fedora.im>
18:32:25
Is there anything else for Open Floor?
<@davide:cavalca.name>
18:33:37
I have one quick question
<@tdawson:fedora.im>
18:33:48
Davide Cavalca: Go for it.
<@davide:cavalca.name>
18:34:00
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2350078 tells me that sshpass will be in RHEL 10.0
<@davide:cavalca.name>
18:34:19
oh I see, it was literally updated yesterday: https://gitlab.com/redhat/centos-stream/rpms/sshpass
<@davide:cavalca.name>
18:34:28
I was going to ask when it was going to show up on gitlab :)
<@davide:cavalca.name>
18:34:29
nevermind
<@tdawson:fedora.im>
18:36:23
It's going to be hard for it to make it to 10.0, but the person that wants it knows how to work the red-tape ... so we'll see if it's there in time.
<@tdawson:fedora.im>
18:37:16
Well, I didn't expect to end the meeting early, but I'm ok with that. Anything else before I close the meeting?
<@jonathanspw:fedora.im>
18:37:51
Nothing like getting time back!
<@tdawson:fedora.im>
18:38:22
Thank you all for the good, and brief discussions today. And thank you all for all you do for EPEL and the EPEL community.
<@tdawson:fedora.im>
