lruzicka gave a cookie to kparal. They now have 79 cookies, 1 of which were obtained in the Fedora 41 release cycle
<@adamwill:fedora.im>
17:10:06
so AIUI, anaconda team has proposed this as a sort of procedural blocker because they already merged the fix for this, but it missed freeze, and they don't want to take it out again
<@adamwill:fedora.im>
17:10:15
i don't think it's a blocker, but i'm fine giving it an FE, fixing it for beta would be nice
<@adamwill:fedora.im>
17:10:32

<@adamwill:fedora.im>
17:15:33
so, uh, i'm not sure where we are with this exactly
<@adamwill:fedora.im>
17:15:40
it's accepted as an FE, we never formally rejected it as a blocker
<@conan_kudo:matrix.org>
17:15:41
it's been worked around
<@conan_kudo:matrix.org>
17:15:52
so uhh, I guess fix'd?
<@adamwill:fedora.im>
17:15:55
if it's addressed for beta, can we close it? or drop the nominations?
<@decathorpe:fedora.im>
17:15:58
gcc 15 really doesn't like KDE huh? :D
<@conan_kudo:matrix.org>
17:16:08
gcc 15 also didn't like glib much either
<@conan_kudo:matrix.org>
17:16:20
it was an equal opportunity destructive force :)
<@conan_kudo:matrix.org>
17:16:42
but yes, with plasma 6.3.2 it should be able to be closed
<@conan_kudo:matrix.org>
17:17:06
(budgie is apparently not in a happy place right now because of gcc 15)
<@conan_kudo:matrix.org>
17:17:28
not sure how the other desktops are faring
<@adamwill:fedora.im>
17:19:34

<@adamwill:fedora.im>
17:20:25
so this has +4 now, but i figured i'd leave it on the agenda just in case anyone had an issue as it's a big change
<@adamwill:fedora.im>
17:20:30
and we're fairly close to go/no-go now
<@conan_kudo:matrix.org>
17:20:52
this release contains all the currently known workarounds for gcc 15
<@kparal:matrix.org>
17:21:14
OT: does anyone know how to get a meetbot link for an in-progress meeting (this one), so that I can secretarialize immediately and not wait for this meeting to end?
<@conan_kudo:matrix.org>
17:21:26
I don't think that's a thing?
<@kparal:matrix.org>
17:21:43
it used to be, but now even meetbot-raw doesn't contain in-progress logs
<@conan_kudo:matrix.org>
17:21:51
huh TIL
<@lruzicka:matrix.org>
17:22:02
I am not sure. I did not vote during today because I was a little concerned about such a big change so close to the release.
<@adamwill:fedora.im>
17:22:32
Kamil Páral yeah, I haven't found a way either :/ it may be just a matrix vs. irc meetbot difference
<@matthiasc:gnome.org>
17:23:02
Conan Kudo: what was the glib issue?
<@adamwill:fedora.im>
17:23:14
it's been in u-t for four days with no negative karma, which is nice
<@nielsenb:fedora.im>
17:23:19
We need it to fix the ICC issue, don't we?
<@adamwill:fedora.im>
17:23:24
and this is the update with the fix/workaround for the ICC issue, yeah
<@conan_kudo:matrix.org>
17:23:26
apparently there were some semi-random crashes affecting budgie rooted in glib
<@adamwill:fedora.im>
17:23:37
so i guess the resolution for that is only valid if we push this
<@conan_kudo:matrix.org>
17:23:44
I don't know the full details, you'd have to ask josh strobl in #budgie:fedoraproject.org
<@adamwill:fedora.im>
17:26:01
on the whole i'm in favor of taking this, given the four days of testing, i think

17:49:21
this would annoy the hell out of me too, so FinalBlocker +1 from my POV :D
<@conan_kudo:matrix.org>
17:49:32
yeah that's pretty bad
<@conan_kudo:matrix.org>
17:49:38
I'd FinalBlocker +1 that
<@nielsenb:fedora.im>
17:49:50
Esepcially since I don't know how you ever fix it? I haven't found a workaround.
<@conan_kudo:matrix.org>
17:50:04
I'm not sure you can fix it in that situation
<@adamwill:fedora.im>
17:50:13
yeah, on that basis i'd be +1
<@conan_kudo:matrix.org>
17:50:23
not being able to unlock the keyring is seriously a problem since network creds and other things are stored there by default
<@derekenz:fedora.im>
17:50:26
FinalBlocker +1
<@adamwill:fedora.im>
17:50:55
Brandon Nielsen after the meeting i'll do a scratch build with the upstream patch and you can see if it works for you
<@nielsenb:fedora.im>
17:50:57
If you look at the log, there's a message about unable to set locker password or something
<@nielsenb:fedora.im>
17:51:14
I assume that means it's a forever borked lockring
<@nielsenb:fedora.im>
17:51:18
er, keyring
<@adamwill:fedora.im>
17:52:06
Brandon Nielsen https://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/taskinfo?taskID=129152704 is the scratch build i did to test it, but not sure if that's usable for you now
<@nielsenb:fedora.im>
17:52:51
Presumably I would need that installed before initial setup?
<@conan_kudo:matrix.org>
17:53:34
if it's in a side-tag, it's possible to make an off-the-cuff image to test with
<@conan_kudo:matrix.org>
17:53:52
since side tags are yum repos, kiwi can be told to add it via command line
<@adamwill:fedora.im>
17:54:20
Brandon Nielsen oh, if the thing you're testing is during i-s, yeah
<@conan_kudo:matrix.org>
17:54:22
or createrepo in a fedorapeople place or something
<@adamwill:fedora.im>
17:54:49
i'd just install it with chroot after your initial install is done
<@nielsenb:fedora.im>
17:55:01
I think the keyring gets created during initial setup
<@adamwill:fedora.im>
17:55:03
if you leave the installer open, the installed system is at /mnt/sysimage
<@nielsenb:fedora.im>
17:55:08
I suppose I could install that, then try creating a new user
<@adamwill:fedora.im>
17:55:21
well yeah, if the bug is sort of 'inside' the keyring and not in the unlocking process at boot\
<@adamwill:fedora.im>
17:55:33
that, too
<@adamwill:fedora.im>
17:56:11
well yeah, if the bug is sort of 'inside' the keyring and not in the unlocking process at boot
<@conan_kudo:matrix.org>
17:56:13
if the bug comes from g-i-s user setup
<@conan_kudo:matrix.org>
17:56:18
it needs to be before a user is created
<@nielsenb:fedora.im>
17:56:53
Post that build in one of the bug reports, I'll try to get it tested soon-ish
<@adamwill:fedora.im>
17:57:14
to me, the fix looks like it's runtime
<@adamwill:fedora.im>
17:57:15
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-keyring/-/merge_requests/78/diffs
<@adamwill:fedora.im>
17:57:30
so you might just be able to install the update, reboot and try it again
<@nielsenb:fedora.im>
17:57:51
I can try all the things if I can just find some time
<@adamwill:fedora.im>
17:58:01
hehe, ok
<@adamwill:fedora.im>
17:58:05
will do

18:05:00
so...i think we may not have a fix for this yet, but katerina is off today so i don't have a definite status update
<@adamwill:fedora.im>
18:05:09
per the bug discussion, it's possible i was holding RAID wrong
<@adamwill:fedora.im>
18:05:29
so...we may want to revisit this at some point
<@adamwill:fedora.im>
18:05:36
might be nice if other folks can try doing sw RAID with webui
<@adamwill:fedora.im>
18:08:34
!info we may not have a fix for this in the new anaconda build, but we should also re-test different ways of setting up software RAID and possibly reconsider the blocker status

<@kparal:matrix.org>
18:11:52
everyone's asleep already 😉
<@decathorpe:fedora.im>
18:12:09
so ... is this beta going to be the first release with Anaconda Web UI by default?
<@decathorpe:fedora.im>
18:12:20
(at least for Workstation?)
<@decathorpe:fedora.im>
18:13:34
just because I'm hoping that there's not going to be a flood of bug reports when the beta releases :D
<@adamwill:fedora.im>
18:15:20
yes, that's the plan
<@adamwill:fedora.im>
18:15:27
and we await the result with interest :D
<@decathorpe:fedora.im>
18:15:34
me too ...
<@decathorpe:fedora.im>
18:15:48
(I did an install from a nightly F42 image in a VM a few days ago, and parts of the custom partitioning UI are ... very strange, and the fact that anaconda now seems to format the disks and partitions you set up *twice* is weird too - once on the "no-backsies!" custom partitioning screen and once at the start of the actual install)
<@adamwill:fedora.im>
18:16:29
yeah, i can see why that happens but it'd be nice if it could be avoided by having the install phase realize the webui partitioner already did it
<@decathorpe:fedora.im>
18:17:28
it also took me painfully long to find the custom partitioning option, hidden behind the very inconspicuous Hamburger menu in the corner ...
<@conan_kudo:matrix.org>
18:18:22
I think you can guess why it's hidden now
<@adamwill:fedora.im>
18:18:42
that's kinda by design, as the *idea* is to try and avoid the need for it as far as possible - there are meant to be more powerful guided options now, like the 'replace current install' option
<@adamwill:fedora.im>
18:19:04
i love watching the lifecycle of the installer developer
<@decathorpe:fedora.im>
18:19:15
I get that, but I never liked the defaults 😆
<@adamwill:fedora.im>
18:19:16
when they're newly hatched they're all so endearingly optimistic
<@conan_kudo:matrix.org>
18:19:28
😆
<@adamwill:fedora.im>
18:19:56
Fabio Valentini also, the 'do your partitioning with whatever tool you like, then assign the mount points in the installer' workflow is intended to be commonly used
<@adamwill:fedora.im>
18:20:22
though that comes with the rather large gotcha that you have to know exactly what bootloader-related partitions you need to set up
<@adamwill:fedora.im>
18:20:46
Fabio Valentini also, the 'do your partitioning with whatever tool you like, then assign the mount points in the installer' workflow is intended to be commonly used for partition pokemons (that's what we call people like you :>)
<@decathorpe:fedora.im>
18:20:58
lol
<@decathorpe:fedora.im>
18:20:58
<@decathorpe:fedora.im>
18:20:58
> partition pokemons
<@decathorpe:fedora.im>
18:21:33
to be fair, I looked like the new advanced UI did *some* validation of what I set up before accepting it
<@adamwill:fedora.im>
18:22:07
yeah, being able to do that is one of the reasons the initial 'let's have no custom UI in the installer, just the mount point selection flow' didn't work out
<@decathorpe:fedora.im>
18:22:24
also, my setup is not *that* strange ... just btrfs subvolumes for / and /home instead of just / at btrfs root
<@adamwill:fedora.im>
18:22:57
everyone has their own one little thing they want to do
<@adamwill:fedora.im>
18:23:02
it's the software tragedy
<@conan_kudo:matrix.org>
18:23:05
wait what
<@decathorpe:fedora.im>
18:23:10
I didn't have to do that for the F42 test VM, but was curious whether the new WebUI supported that :D
<@adamwill:fedora.im>
18:23:11
if i was making an installer it'd have a GO button
<@conan_kudo:matrix.org>
18:23:11
this is supposed to be the default
<@adamwill:fedora.im>
18:23:15
...that's all
<@decathorpe:fedora.im>
18:23:23
it is? 👀
<@adamwill:fedora.im>
18:23:26
i think the default still varies based on disk size
<@adamwill:fedora.im>
18:23:42
if there's more than...I wanna say it's 50GB?...of space, you get separate /home
<@adamwill:fedora.im>
18:23:54
if there's less than that, you just get root
<@nielsenb:fedora.im>
18:23:54
"YOLO"
<@adamwill:fedora.im>
18:24:02
i *think* that code got kept even with btrfs
<@conan_kudo:matrix.org>
18:24:16
that's... unexpected
<@decathorpe:fedora.im>
18:24:18
oh that would make sense. I give my VMs only 20 gigs of disk
<@adamwill:fedora.im>
18:24:22
though it's arguably a bit obsolete with btrfs subvolumes? the main worry was that splitting them up would have space issues
<@conan_kudo:matrix.org>
18:24:27
right
<@conan_kudo:matrix.org>
18:24:37
probably worth filing a bug report to remove that filter for btrfs
<@adamwill:fedora.im>
18:24:39
check that, though, i'm just tlaking off the top of my head here
<@adamwill:fedora.im>
18:25:05
anyhoo, seems like the meeting is over
