all right, everyone set?
<@nimbinatus:matrix.org>
15:03:19
what topics do we want to talk about today?
<@jlebon:fedora.im>
15:03:58
(i have one, but didn't add it to the agenda beforehand)
<@nimbinatus:matrix.org>
15:04:06
No worries
<@nimbinatus:matrix.org>
15:04:11
I think I can add it
<@nimbinatus:matrix.org>
15:04:45
(I also have no idea where the agenda actually lives)
<@walters:fedora.im>
15:05:34
Only thing I had offhand is that there were some talks from devconf.cz; hmm I think maybe this meeting would be a good place to ensure we have stuff queued for the BCTW bot

!topic BCTW bot queue
<@nimbinatus:matrix.org>
15:06:20
Go for it. And Jonathan Lebon, lmk what you want to talk about? I'll queue it up next
<@jlebon:fedora.im>
15:07:10
nimbinatus: updating centos-bootc
<@nimbinatus:matrix.org>
15:08:47
Anything for the bot queue?
<@jbrooks:matrix.org>
15:10:07
I've been way behind on doing this week in bootc updates, but I would typically do a google search since last update for items -- been meaning to automate that...
<@walters:fedora.im>
15:10:22
Hmm maybe we can wait for the official devconf.cz 2025 feeds to link the videos
<@nimbinatus:matrix.org>
15:10:45
all right, I'll make some action items as y'all chat
<@nimbinatus:matrix.org>
15:11:31
!action jbrooks search for potential BCTW (bootc this week) updates. Can outsource to nimbinatus
<@nimbinatus:matrix.org>

<@rsturla:fedora.im>
15:12:52
It might be nice to have a section in BCTW on what's coming up next - in-development features, talks, releases etc
<@walters:fedora.im>
15:12:53
We have a new client release as well, and yes definitely should automate scraping the base items like that
<@nimbinatus:matrix.org>
15:13:26
!idea BCTW section on what's coming up next - in-development features, talks, releases
<@rsturla:fedora.im>
15:13:27
It might be nice to have a section in BCTW on what's coming up next - early preview of in-development features, talks, releases etc
<@nimbinatus:matrix.org>
15:13:47
!action Colin add new client release notes to BCTW
<@walters:fedora.im>
15:14:07
hmm, yes though at least some of that should probably be a link to the upstream milestone trackers and issues
<@nimbinatus:matrix.org>
15:14:47
So I'm assuming this is the Discussion board? Where does the actual code live (if there is any)?
<@nimbinatus:matrix.org>

<@walters:fedora.im>
15:17:25
anyways, I think that's it and we can move on?
<@nimbinatus:matrix.org>
15:17:28

<@nimbinatus:matrix.org>
15:17:53
Ok, Jonathan Lebon this is your topic :)
<@jlebon:fedora.im>
15:18:14
thanks :)
<@jlebon:fedora.im>
15:19:06
first, an update: we've now added a new container-native path for building FCOS in https://github.com/coreos/fedora-coreos-config/pull/3348
<@jlebon:fedora.im>
15:19:27
this means you can now build FCOS using `podman build`, which is cool. underneath this uses the from scratch imagectl flow
<@jlebon:fedora.im>
15:19:46
we're now working on doing this for SCOS (used by OKD) and RHCOS (used by OCP)
<@jlebon:fedora.im>
15:20:17
a lot of the code is already there, but it needs backporting
<@dustymabe:matrix.org>
15:20:23
and... planning to start leveraging this flow for the F43 update: https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Changes/BuildFCOSUsingContainerfile
<@jlebon:fedora.im>
15:20:45
notably a lot of things that landed in imagectl in the last month or so are needed
<@jlebon:fedora.im>
15:20:58
which brings me to https://gitlab.com/redhat/centos-stream/containers/bootc/-/merge_requests/560
<@walters:fedora.im>
15:21:26
Yeah I just updated https://gitlab.com/fedora/bootc/base-images/-/merge_requests/172#note_2568492030
<@jlebon:fedora.im>
15:21:41
i don't have access unfortunately to see the konflux failures but it seems quite odd that this has been outstanding for so long
<@walters:fedora.im>
15:22:26
The failure is `error: Installing packages: Packages not found: python3-libdnf5` (per above)
<@jlebon:fedora.im>
15:22:49
gotcha ok. i can help with that yeah
<@walters:fedora.im>
15:22:51
I was really hoping the dnf folks would merge the single line patch but...
<@dustymabe:matrix.org>
15:23:08
Colin Walters: are they opposed, or just haven't considered it?
<@walters:fedora.im>
15:23:33
dustymabe: https://src.fedoraproject.org/rpms/dnf5/pull-request/99 for details...
<@jlebon:fedora.im>
15:24:48
we also need https://github.com/bootc-dev/bootc/pull/1352 in c9s/c10s/9.6/10.1
<@walters:fedora.im>
15:25:33
Jonathan Lebon: hmm things like that need to be tracked via rhel jira in general
<@jlebon:fedora.im>
15:26:36
Colin Walters: i guess so, yeah. had a question relating to rhel-bootc also but less appropriate here
<@walters:fedora.im>
15:27:06
well we try to keep these things all in sync in general, definitely not *not* appropriate here 😄
<@jlebon:fedora.im>
15:27:53
i'll keep it for the matrix channel post-meeting :)
<@jlebon:fedora.im>
15:28:25
but anyway, outstanding MRs are https://gitlab.com/fedora/bootc/base-images/-/merge_requests/?sort=created_date&state=opened&author_username=jlebon1&first_page_size=20 and https://gitlab.com/redhat/centos-stream/containers/bootc/-/merge_requests/?sort=created_date&state=opened&author_username=jlebon1&first_page_size=20
<@walters:fedora.im>
15:28:28
I think that may be all for this topic? Anyone have other things?
<@jlebon:fedora.im>
15:28:31
(that need review)
<@walters:fedora.im>
15:28:54
Ah nice work, ok yep we'll get those reviewed!
<@nimbinatus:matrix.org>
15:29:19
ok, what topic do y
<@nimbinatus:matrix.org>
15:29:24
ok, what topic do y'all want next?
<@nimbinatus:matrix.org>
15:30:31
!topic open floor
<@dustymabe:matrix.org>
15:30:53
I had one to bring up.
<@dustymabe:matrix.org>
15:31:25
<@dustymabe:matrix.org>
15:31:25
https://github.com/bootc-dev/bootc/issues/22
<@dustymabe:matrix.org>
15:31:25
I'm wondering if the config overlays/dynamic overlays has a driver for now?
<@walters:fedora.im>
15:32:04
Not currently but still definitely hope to do it
<@jlebon:fedora.im>
15:33:05
maybe we can see if someone from the CoreOS side can pick that up. it's particularly important there
<@dustymabe:matrix.org>
15:33:49
Is there anyone in particular that would be good to collaborate with from the bootc side?
<@dustymabe:matrix.org>
15:34:04
OR just post updates to the issue?
<@walters:fedora.im>
15:35:54
Posting to the issue makes total sense as a default, but it's worth re-noting here there is now an upstream-client-focused slack, linked from https://github.com/bootc-dev/bootc?tab=readme-ov-file#community-discussion
<@nimbinatus:matrix.org>
15:36:19
Ah, wait, do you mean the CNCF one?
<@dustymabe:matrix.org>
15:36:24
!info Dusty gave a talk at Flock about the future of CoreOS and how it intersects with bootc. Slides: https://cfp.fedoraproject.org/flock-to-fedora-2025/talk/UPJKTZ/ Recording: https://youtu.be/LvkFho1l238?t=3796
<@nimbinatus:matrix.org>
15:36:41
We will need to migrate the community off of that Slack by the end of the week. I'm waiting to hear where we'll go.
<@dustymabe:matrix.org>
15:37:25
CNCF slack going away?
<@nimbinatus:matrix.org>
15:37:57
Yes. One sec, I'll get you the blog post link. But the short version is Salesforce has decided to remove the CNCF special instance, and we were given a one week notice.
<@nimbinatus:matrix.org>
15:38:09
CNCF is exploring other options, quickly. I'll have more info soon.
<@dustymabe:matrix.org>
15:38:12
One week, wow.
<@nimbinatus:matrix.org>
15:38:21
https://www.cncf.io/blog/2025/06/16/cncf-slack-workspace-changes-coming-on-friday-june-20/
<@nimbinatus:matrix.org>
15:38:26
Yeah, only one week notice
<@nimbinatus:matrix.org>
15:38:57
I'm more than happy to answer questions if anyone is curious about what this means for us as a CNCF project.
<@dustymabe:matrix.org>
15:38:58
TBH I really wish CNCF would use matrix, but I understand how this is something that many people have strong opinions about.
<@nimbinatus:matrix.org>
15:40:08
There's a lot of negotiation going on within the CNCF at the moment. We can certainly have a Matrix space of our own, but there will always be a space where the CNCF is, and I recommend avoiding that fractured community as much as we can, unfortunately. So I'd recommend waiting to see what the CNCF does.
<@nimbinatus:matrix.org>
15:40:16
Keeping up with many community spaces is difficult at our size
<@walters:fedora.im>
15:40:22
There's a lot of existing discussion on this (especially in https://github.com/kubernetes/community/issues/8490 )
<@dustymabe:matrix.org>
15:42:14
yeah. and as an emerging project I guess it makes sense to make sure we have established places for scoped discussions.
<@dustymabe:matrix.org>
15:42:14
<@dustymabe:matrix.org>
15:42:14
for example bootc-dev upstream maybe should have it's own community meeting? and this one will be more focused on fedora/centos ecosystem specific things
<@walters:fedora.im>
15:42:56
We've had a few so far, but only announced in that slack; see also https://github.com/bootc-dev/bootc/pull/1368
<@nimbinatus:matrix.org>
15:43:01
Yes :) There is a community meeting on Fridays! It's a good step in the right direction on the path for graduation as a CNCF project
<@dustymabe:matrix.org>
15:43:27
oh wow. I didn't realize. I'll try to get more plugged in
<@nimbinatus:matrix.org>
15:44:58
Ok, we're about 15 minutes before end of time. Any thing else folks want to discuss? Re upstream stuff, we can definitely talk more about CNCF things and all elsewhere.
<@nimbinatus:matrix.org>
