the TL;DR is that we're planning to move the live rootfs from using squashfs to erofs. this will happen in osbuild since that's how the live artifacts are built now.

Feels like a big change. I found that the EROFS is slightly faster than the squashFS. Would this change improve the build process?

it needs to be tested. until very recently, it had worse compression and creation time. but the latest erofs-utils release should've improved things (well, compression at least, not sure about time)
