18:17:36 <phsmoura> I just added a sleep random in the PR about compressing logs. also would like to run it as you said nirik. theres this command "parallel" that could reduce the execution time, but need to be installed. Should I run it normally?

18:18:54 <nirik> I do not think we want to run too much in parallel there, it would cause the machine problems.
18:19:31 <nirik> but perhaps it would make sense to remove the -exec and instead -print | xargs -P 5 (or whatever value we do want to do in parallel)

18:21:53 <nirik> I can add those comments to the pr if you like. I do think the first run will take a long time... so perhaps run it in a tmux session...
18:22:58 <nirik> no, when you do -exec with find, it runs those commands over the files it finds... but when you do -print | xargs it just prints them in find and passes them to 'xargs' which is another command that can run commands on filenames...
18:23:06 <nirik> and -P5 to xargs says 'run 5 of these at once'
18:24:03 <nirik> I guess the easiest thing would be to keep it just the way you have it and replace 'xz' with 'pxz' which is a parallel xz that will run faster.
18:24:19 <phsmoura> Ahh ok. sure and it takes time to run. tested locally with about 20 files 600mb each. took 1 hour to finish
