<@lruzicka:matrix.org>
15:04:37
Let's wait for a couple of minutes if more people show up.
<@tflink:fedora.im>
15:05:00
this might be a short meeting if it's just the two of us
<@lruzicka:matrix.org>
15:05:38
tflink: Yeah, I know. Let's give it some time :D

Hi, there
<@lruzicka:matrix.org>
15:08:10
So, we are at least three people here, so we will go through the topics real quick.
<@lruzicka:matrix.org>
15:08:39
Adam is away and he wanted we met for a while just to make sure that everything is all right.

!topic Fedora 41 Status
<@lruzicka:matrix.org>
15:09:15
Do you have anything to the F41 status?
<@lruzicka:matrix.org>
15:09:55
thanks, Tim
<@lruzicka:matrix.org>
15:10:40
The latest runs of openQA are generally fine, with a couple of failures which I have not had time to investigate yet.
<@lruzicka:matrix.org>
15:11:10
I will take a look tomorrow, but I think that most of them will be some minor issues in the test logic or needles.
<@lruzicka:matrix.org>
15:12:04
Also, we have a couple of blockers proposed, both for Beta and Final, so when you time, take a look and cast your vote.
<@lruzicka:matrix.org>
15:12:24
Anything else?
<@lruzicka:matrix.org>
15:13:06
I guess not.
<@lruzicka:matrix.org>
15:13:11
Let's move to

!topic Fedora 41 Test Days
<@lruzicka:matrix.org>
15:13:38
Sumantro Mukherjee: are you around, Sumantro?
<@lruzicka:matrix.org>
15:15:02
I guess not.
<@lruzicka:matrix.org>
15:15:53
Nevermind, this week we have an upcoming Test Day for HSM support and functionality, so if you have the possibility to take part, it would be nice.
<@lruzicka:matrix.org>
15:16:58
You can see more details here: https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Test_Day:Test_Day:2024-07-09_IPA_HSM
<@lruzicka:matrix.org>
15:17:33
However, I am not sure what type of equipment one should have to actually be able to do it.
<@sumantrom:fedora.im>
15:17:59
hey
<@lruzicka:matrix.org>
15:18:07
Hello, Sumantro Mukherjee
<@sumantrom:fedora.im>
15:18:10
i was around!!
<@conan_kudo:matrix.org>
15:18:21
realistically I don't see how people test the HSM stuff
<@conan_kudo:matrix.org>
15:18:45
neither of the two supported HSMs are easy or affordable
<@sumantrom:fedora.im>
15:19:15
Conan Kudo: I am told the downstream IPA team would participate .. its good they are asking folks to test in the open
<@lruzicka:matrix.org>
15:19:20
We might have a community somewhere where they do have the HSM :D
<@conan_kudo:matrix.org>
15:19:29
tbh, I wonder what's the point of a test day for stuff nobody has
<@conan_kudo:matrix.org>
15:19:50
uh huh, and I have a billion dollars to invest in open source
<@tflink:fedora.im>
15:20:58
neal is buying new HW for testing \o/
<@conan_kudo:matrix.org>
15:21:15
🤣
<@sumantrom:fedora.im>
15:21:32
Conan Kudo, I see this as folks levaraging the test days platform to participate in the open source , community-powered testing approach..
<@lruzicka:matrix.org>
15:22:02
Well, let's see how it goes. Sometimes miracles do happen and someone might be interested in a company somewhere :D
<@conan_kudo:matrix.org>
15:22:04
perhaps, but it stretches our resources and our ability to schedule test days for other things
<@lruzicka:matrix.org>
15:22:35
What are the upcoming test days for this month, Sumantro?
<@conan_kudo:matrix.org>
15:22:42
I keep getting reminded that we don't have any QA resources to spare, so stuff like this concerns me
<@sumantrom:fedora.im>
15:23:25
right now just HSM, I might go ahead and schedule a Podman for the next minor release and maybe pick the changesets which are ready for testing
<@sumantrom:fedora.im>
15:23:50
given branch happens this month (??)
<@lruzicka:matrix.org>
15:23:59
True, but if none of us is able to take part, we have basically just lost the time to announce it. I understand the IPA team have written the test case by themselves.
<@lruzicka:matrix.org>
15:25:07
!info Fedora is branching on August 6th according to the schedule.
<@sumantrom:fedora.im>
15:25:27
lruzicka: the test day is announced on Fedora Magazine.. and for downstream teams, members directly reaching out goes a few miles more than things on @test list
<@lruzicka:matrix.org>
15:27:05
Not sure I understand the remark.
<@tflink:fedora.im>
15:27:57
I assume that he means that the announcement doesn't cost us much but could get more people testing with appropriate hardware. if nobody additional shows up, it's not a huge loss
<@tflink:fedora.im>
15:28:06
that's how I read it, anyways
<@lruzicka:matrix.org>
15:28:59
Yeah, that should probably go to Conan Kudo then, because that was my point of view, too.
<@lruzicka:matrix.org>
15:30:09
Anyway, if no more specific test days are to discuss and this one is already scheduled anyway ....
<@lruzicka:matrix.org>
15:30:13
!topic Open Floor
<@lruzicka:matrix.org>
15:30:26
Do you have anything?
<@conan_kudo:matrix.org>
15:30:50
So, FYI, the Fedora KDE AArch64 change has gone to FESCo to vote
<@conan_kudo:matrix.org>
15:31:25
if it's approved, I expect we'll have at least 2 (but probably more) Fedora KDE folks regularly assisting with Fedora KDE AArch64 QA.
<@lruzicka:matrix.org>
15:31:51
Thank you for the information.
<@lruzicka:matrix.org>
15:32:06
Do you know for when the vote is scheduled?
<@conan_kudo:matrix.org>
15:32:11
this is in addition to the testing that is done particularly to ensure Fedora KDE works great on Apple Silicon platforms, which benefits all AArch64 platforms.
<@conan_kudo:matrix.org>
15:32:42
the voting started today...
<@tflink:fedora.im>
15:32:43
does that imply that if it's not approved, people won't be testing it?
<@conan_kudo:matrix.org>
15:32:44
<@conan_kudo:matrix.org>
15:33:12
tflink: it implies that Fedora KDE won't prioritize acquisition of hardware to do AArch64 testing beyond what we have now
<@conan_kudo:matrix.org>
15:33:55
right now, our issue is we lack the hardware, and a few folks on my team have agreed to acquire hardware on their own to test r-b platforms in addition to AArch64 KVM and Apple Silicon which is tested now
<@tflink:fedora.im>
15:34:49
yeah, the biggest problem with aarch64 in Fedora is getting hardware that's reasonably priced
<@conan_kudo:matrix.org>
15:35:19
well, and unlike Workstation, which gets money from Red Hat, KDE has nothing
<@conan_kudo:matrix.org>
15:35:27
so we have to work with what we can get
<@conan_kudo:matrix.org>
15:35:53
I'm not going to ask people to spend their own money for something that doesn't mean anything
<@conan_kudo:matrix.org>
15:36:25
so basically, I've tied my ask to Fedora KDE becoming release blocking on AArch64
<@conan_kudo:matrix.org>
15:36:54
as part of that, I'm looking into the lorax-aarch64 problem we've been having for a few cycles
<@conan_kudo:matrix.org>
15:37:20
potentially regardless of this change, I may wind up moving Fedora KDE away from lorax to kiwi
<@conan_kudo:matrix.org>
15:37:57
the bugs in that stack that don't make sense scare me, so I'd like to make things easier for everyone there
<@lruzicka:matrix.org>
15:39:18
Thanks for your KDE support, Neil. I wish more desktops would be financially supported ....
<@lruzicka:matrix.org>
15:40:16
However, I do not believe that your work is "for nothing" even if Fesco decided not to. There are lots of people using KDE and making it better for them is actually a good thing.
<@lruzicka:matrix.org>
15:40:40
Both on Apple, Raspberry, or PC.
<@conan_kudo:matrix.org>
15:41:16
sure, but if it's not release-blocking, getting bug fixes through to GA is rather difficult
<@conan_kudo:matrix.org>
15:41:30
and r-b also makes things more important to KDE upstream too
<@conan_kudo:matrix.org>
15:42:02
and frankly, this was long overdue, given Fedora Asahi Remix's usage of KDE as the flagship experience
<@lruzicka:matrix.org>
15:42:17
Oh, I totally know how you feel.
<@tflink:fedora.im>
15:43:03
at this point, we're just going to rehash the arguments in the discourse thread
<@tflink:fedora.im>
15:43:11
maybe it's time to end the meeting for today?
<@lruzicka:matrix.org>
15:43:41
Yeah, the roosters are just small governors, the Sun orders them to cockadoodle.
<@lruzicka:matrix.org>
15:44:17
!info Fesco is voting to make KDE release blocking on Aarch64.
<@lruzicka:matrix.org>
15:44:32
Anything else?
<@lruzicka:matrix.org>
15:46:09
I guess not.
<@lruzicka:matrix.org>
15:46:28
Thank you very much for coming today folks and see you around next time.
