nirik ahoy...what's the mass rebuild status? done?
<@suprasoftware:matrix.org>
16:10:00
hello, I'm a new member of this group, but I'm quickly getting up to speed on all the progress you've made so far
<@nirik:matrix.scrye.com>
16:10:03
in releng meeting, but... yeah, mostly done, there's some packages that are on the needs rebuild list but not on the failed list, we wanted to try and sort that out, but probibly merge later today hopefully?
<@adamwill:fedora.im>
16:10:16
rgr, thanks
<@adamwill:fedora.im>
16:10:23
hi supra! thanks for joining
<@adamwill:fedora.im>
16:10:39
the meetings aren't usually super exciting, but welcome :)
<@adamwill:fedora.im>

<@lruzicka:matrix.org>
16:10:59
ahoy
<@adamwill:fedora.im>
16:11:24
!info https://fedoraproject.org/wiki//Changes/Unify_bin_and_sbin landed recently, which caused some breakage; be on the lookout for any more, and report anything you find (any issues involving /usr/sbin or /sbin are likely caused by that)
<@kparal:matrix.org>
16:11:36
Sumantro Mukherjee needs to rebuild fedora-easy-karma, because it has broken deps in F42 atm
<@adamwill:fedora.im>
16:12:05
!info GNOME 48 also seems to be on the way, at least Shell got an update to 48-alpha

ok
<@adamwill:fedora.im>
16:12:59
anyone have any other notes on f42 currently? noticed any significant issues that aren't being tracked?

<@bittin:matrix.org>
16:13:03
yup*
<@adamwill:fedora.im>
16:13:11
i meant, on the way in f42
<@bittin:matrix.org>
16:13:16
ah
<@derekenz:fedora.im>
16:14:29
No significant issues that I can think of
<@amoloney:fedora.im>
16:14:37
There are a few changes gone to FESCo for voting that might be noteworthy
<@adamwill:fedora.im>
16:15:05
which ones?
<@amoloney:fedora.im>
16:15:10
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Changes/BootLoaderUpdatesPhase1
<@amoloney:fedora.im>
16:15:26
although that might be more feedback-ish
<@amoloney:fedora.im>
16:16:00
looking through the list now
<@amoloney:fedora.im>
16:16:33
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Changes/GnomeShellExtensionDependencyGenerator looks interesting too
<@adamwill:fedora.im>
16:17:35
oh yeah, i think i heard some rumblings about that one
<@adamwill:fedora.im>
16:17:53
which ones?
<@adamwill:fedora.im>
16:18:00
oh yeah, i think i heard some rumblings about that one
<@amoloney:fedora.im>
16:18:08
and maybe this one too, although that looks straightforward https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Changes/IntelSGX
<@adamwill:fedora.im>
16:18:21
like it might make it harder especially for people running branched/rawhide and getting new shell versions early...
<@adamwill:fedora.im>
16:18:45
SGX doesn't look like it might break anything, the others definitely do
<@adamwill:fedora.im>
16:18:52
bootloaderupdate might be worth a test day
<@amoloney:fedora.im>
16:19:31
as soon as its voted on, Ill get trackers assigned to those aproved and send a heads up to the change owners that the testable deadline is in about 2 weeks (even the ones in the FESCo queue, no harm in having those folks be aware too)
<@amoloney:fedora.im>
16:20:09
and I suppose this one will be interesting too if its approved for F42 https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Changes/KojiLocalImageBuilder
<@suprasoftware:matrix.org>
16:21:19
what's the biggest change in Fedora 41 compared to the last one?
<@adamwill:fedora.im>
16:21:43
Supra Software it really depends a lot on what you use fedora for. you can see the list of official Changes at https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Releases/41/ChangeSet
<@amoloney:fedora.im>
16:22:03
theres an anaconda installer change too actually that might be the biggest one for QA to be aware of if approved https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Changes/Anaconda_Installer_Using_GPT_on_all_architectures_by_Default
<@amoloney:fedora.im>
16:22:30
the rest are all self-contained and *should* be ok... :crosses fingers:
<@adamwill:fedora.im>
16:23:53
i actually have poked at that one a bit and it's surprisingly constrained, because we were already defaulting to GPT on the release-blocking arches
<@amoloney:fedora.im>
16:25:04
Thats a good question and really depends on who you ask I suppose! Some changes are more visible to users, and some will be more impactful on infra and QA when testing. Thats not really a clear answer, but its the nature of software I guess 😊
<@adamwill:fedora.im>
16:25:14
https://github.com/storaged-project/blivet/pull/1322 is the actual change. it'll affect s390 and ppc64le i think
<@adamwill:fedora.im>
16:26:17
!info Aoife Moloney flagged up various pending Changes that could be significant, thanks a lot
<@amoloney:fedora.im>
16:26:27
welcome :)
<@adamwill:fedora.im>
16:27:56
anything else on f42?
<@adamwill:fedora.im>
16:29:10
oh, one thing lukas and I should note, actually
<@lruzicka:matrix.org>
16:29:29
Go ahead :D
<@suprasoftware:matrix.org>
16:29:32
absolutely, users who use Fedora expect a robust system and a reliable way to report bugs, which Fedora provides. In my case, I use Fedora for work, including some Python development
<@adamwill:fedora.im>
16:29:37
!info openQA tests for anaconda webui are on hold while we work with the anaconda team to see if they can apply their upstream tests to distro validation
<@adamwill:fedora.im>
16:30:10
...which would save lukas and I a bunch of work if it works out, so we're hoping it will :D
<@suprasoftware:matrix.org>
16:32:51
perfect, this will help mitigate risks
<@adamwill:fedora.im>
16:33:38
alrighty, moving on...
<@adamwill:fedora.im>
16:33:48
...or not!
<@amoloney:fedora.im>
16:33:54
Actually there is one thing that is being planned for post F42, and shouldnt interfere with the actual release, but I think its best to start flagging it now so folks are prepared in case there is any outages or downtime. nirik and I and other members of the CLE team are planning a datacentre move for Fedora with RH-IT. We believe this should go ok as most of the hardware Fedora needs will be in the new datacentre anyway, but there may be a few physical machines to be moved that have some services running. We are targeting about 1-2 weeks post F42 release
<@amoloney:fedora.im>
16:34:13
sorry, I thought it best to mention this now. There'll be more comms about this in the next month
<@adamwill:fedora.im>
16:34:25
oh, yeah, i'm also involved in that as it'll involve moving openQA
<@adamwill:fedora.im>
16:34:33
don't *think* it has any other impact on us
<@adamwill:fedora.im>
16:34:48
well, blockerbugs and testdays may be subject to outages i guess
<@amoloney:fedora.im>
16:35:03
yeah I think thats on the physical machines moving, but they should go after we release so were not expecting any impact on QA, or others
<@adamwill:fedora.im>
16:35:25
!info a Fedora data centre move is planned for shortly after the F42 release, all services may be prone to outage during that time, including openQA, blockerbugs, testdays etc. expect more communication closer to the date

<@bittin:matrix.org>
16:36:28
Is there any Kernel 6.13 test week/day planned?
<@bittin:matrix.org>
16:36:33
as that released earlier today
<@adamwill:fedora.im>
16:36:47
there isn't one showing yet, but i would assume there will be
<@adamwill:fedora.im>
16:37:10
jforbes around? is a kernel 6.13 test week coming?
<@jforbes:fedora.im>
16:38:11
I am, it is
<@jforbes:fedora.im>
16:38:27
Always 2 weeks after release, I will get the issue filed today
<@adamwill:fedora.im>
16:38:33
awesome, thanks!
<@bittin:matrix.org>
16:38:36
thx cool :)
<@suprasoftware:matrix.org>
16:38:36
has anyone installed the 6.13 kernel yet? I'm wondering if there are any known bugs, since it's a pretty recent releas
<@adamwill:fedora.im>
16:38:43
!info a kernel 6.13 test week will be coming in about two weeks
<@jforbes:fedora.im>
16:38:43
still trying to figure out gcc15 failures
<@bittin:matrix.org>
16:38:45
so first week of February?
<@suprasoftware:matrix.org>
16:38:48
has anyone installed the 6.13 kernel yet? I'm wondering if there are any known bugs, since it's a pretty recent release
<@bittin:matrix.org>
16:38:48
if i count correctly
<@jforbes:fedora.im>
16:39:07
Yes, Feb 2-8
<@adamwill:fedora.im>
16:39:08
Supra Software yeah, I'm using it on rawhide. there was some stuff in the RC timeframe like always, but everything I know of got resolved
<@bittin:matrix.org>
16:39:16
thank you
<@jforbes:fedora.im>
16:40:12
The GCC failures were not just the 23 stuff, and they were supposed to be testing kernel builds before dropping a release, but they "assumed it was the std 23 failures" and just dropped us
<@bittin:matrix.org>
16:40:47
hope it will get sorted out
<@adamwill:fedora.im>
16:41:46
ugh, that's annoying
<@jforbes:fedora.im>
16:42:14
3 diff failures on 3 diff arches
<@suprasoftware:matrix.org>
16:42:49
ok
<@adamwill:fedora.im>
16:43:01
ok, since sumantro isn't here let's move on...there will be more events and so on closer to the f42 release
<@adamwill:fedora.im>

<@bittin:matrix.org>
16:43:56
nope
<@suprasoftware:matrix.org>
16:45:11
all Fedora 42 spins have the same release date?
<@bittin:matrix.org>
16:45:35
thats the plan
<@adamwill:fedora.im>
16:45:39
yes, well, coreos usually 'releases' a bit later, in the sense of 'changes its stable stream to 42'
<@suprasoftware:matrix.org>
16:47:48
all fedora 42 spins have the same release date?
<@adamwill:fedora.im>
16:49:24
