Allan mentions the use case of new users coming from Windows and wanting to 21:00:06 keep Windows around. Another use case is gaming, which often also requires Windows. Neal mentions 21:00:08 bitlocker, and that gaming scenarios will likely avoid the bitlocker complication since it affects 21:00:13 performance. Martin suggests autodiscovering available boot targets. The much bigger complication 21:00:15 is resizing existing installations. 21:00:17 Owen says that we need to do as well as our biggest competitor (Ubuntu). 21:00:19 Neal points out https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Sw07eNjORV1rBEGhlWJmD39BgNBVNbJEJhLzrc_6T0w/edit#heading=h.wjzz1ts8m9ii as an old design from elementary, which has some overlap with what we 21:00:22 want to do. 21:00:24 Neal is concerned about Workstation getting skewered for lack of dual-boot. 21:00:26 Neal suggests that we should identify scenarios where we _can_ do it, and provide a guided 21:00:28 experience for it. And importantly, tell the user if we can or cannot do it. 21:00:30 Jiri is worried that shrinking UI will be a stretch to implement for F39. The tooling is there, but 21:00:33 it has not been part of the guided workflow in the old UI and isn't currently tested. 21:00:35 Chris says that dual-boot is a final release criterion and has been tested in Fedora. 21:00:37 Some discussion around bitlocker, and how much it is enabled by default. Neal thinks it is 21:00:39 not enabled on many machines. Chris had a two-year old thinkpad with bitlocker enabled 21:00:43 by default and no opt-out. This situation will probably get more common, going forward. 21:00:45 Owen doesn't think a 'pre-shrinking windows step' is a hard requirement. And we don't have 21:00:47 to improve on the current support as a precondition for the new UI, but we shouldn't regress 21:00:49 beyond what Ubuntu supports. 21:00:51 Neal suggests: 21:00:53 a) detect other OS 21:00:55 b) find free space 21:00:57 c) offer a dual-boot install 21:00:59 Allan points out lack of documentation around dual-boot. Just knowing what is or isn't supported 21:01:01 would be a bit step forward. Jiri agrees that documentation is important 21:01:03 #info Ability to change keyboard layout 21:01:05 #link https://pagure.io/fedora-workstation/issue/368 21:01:07 Case in Allans mind: using an input method, or a non-ascii layout like Dvorak. 21:01:09 Jiri says anaconda will not deal with keyboard layout, would just copy current settings to the 21:01:11 installed system. 21:01:15 Owen suggests that we can allow a second keyboard layout in gnome-initial-setup for 21:01:17 use cases where it is needed, but is concerned that this only works for live installer 21:01:19 scenarios, not for e.g. the net installer. 21:01:21 Jiri says that a solution for the net installer will be separately designed. 21:01:23 Some discussion around use of input methods in password entries and other 21:01:25 fields that require ASCII input. 21:01:27 Question about copying configuration from the live system: All keyboard layouts should 21:01:29 be copied, not just one. 21:01:31 We have a plan to handle keyboard setup for the live session. 21:01:33 #info Ability to select a language and keyboard for installer and live session 21:01:35 #link https://pagure.io/fedora-workstation/issue/366 21:01:37 What are the next steps here? 21:01:39 #topic No secure ATA Erase functionality available on default install image 21:01:41 #link https://pagure.io/fedora-workstation/issue/378 21:01:45 Deferred 21:01:47 #topic Announcements and status updates 21:01:49 The minutes from last week have been posted 21:01:51 #link https://meetbot.fedoraproject.org/fedora-meeting-2/2023-04-25/workstation.2023-04-25-19.07.log.html 21:01:54 HDR hackfest happenend 21:01:56 #link https://emersion.fr/blog/2023/hdr-hackfest-wrap-up/ 21:01:58 #endmeeting
