01:07:53 <brainycmurf> No new status update currently
01:07:55 <brainycmurf> Waiting for progress on UKI (unified kernel image) and btrfs fscrypt support
01:07:57 <brainycmurf> German government has been sponsoring GNOME and accountsservice work on systemd-homed support
01:07:59 <brainycmurf> Owen would still prefer to avoid loopback mounted home directories, prefers btrfs fscrypt instead
01:08:01 <brainycmurf> However, there are parts of homed which would be useful for us if the GNOME integration work is done
01:08:04 <brainycmurf> #topic power-profiles-daemon is archived
01:08:06 <brainycmurf> #link https://pagure.io/fedora-workstation/issue/393
01:08:08 <brainycmurf> It has been unarchived and is now under the upower umbrella - https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/upower/power-profiles-daemon. We may need to discuss this anyway, in the light of the change proposal to replace power profiles daemon with tuned. Bastien is opposed to this. A conflict that needs to be resolved, but neither party is present. It is not clear if Bastien plans to keep maintaining it, going forward, but he
01:08:15 <brainycmurf> doesn't seem to want Kate to take it over, either.
01:08:17 <brainycmurf> Neal: doesn't think that ppd has been providing good performance. Thinks that tuned will provide improved battery life.
01:08:20 <brainycmurf> Owen: wants something that works well out of the box rather than a solution that allows extra tweaking. Vendors need to do the work to provide the profiles for their platforms - will that happen. Neal: vendors tend to support their platfroms outside of firmware.
01:08:24 <brainycmurf> Allan is not sure we need any more power management UI than we have already.
01:08:26 <brainycmurf> Neal pointed out that thermald is useless for us because nobody has written an open source tool to extract the data.
01:08:29 <brainycmurf> Matthias: isn't convinced that switching to tuned will be successful without a maintainer to push it forward.
01:08:32 <brainycmurf> Michael: it would be helpful to have input from power management experts. It's a shame that they don't seem to agree with oneanother. The power management space is fragmented. We need a pipewire for power.
01:08:35 <brainycmurf> Downstream in RHEL, we have complaints that power-profiles-daemon is autostarted and shuts down tuned and tlp.
01:08:38 <brainycmurf> Michael would like further discussion between the parties involved in power management: Kate, Bastien, tuned team.
01:08:43 <brainycmurf> The fesco ticket for the change proposal is https://pagure.io/fesco/issue/3103. Follow the discussion link in the first comment. Michael will summarize this discussion there.
